Little Mermaid: Tail flip or flop? - 2008/01/16 02:46 So opening weekend for TLM wasn't long ago, and the reviews were rather terrible! However, from what I've seen of the musical (via the ABC videos, I'd have to disagree). I like the wheeled shoes as a way to simulate gliding. ANYWAY. I plan on seeing that when I got to NYC to audition for my college. What is everyone else's thoughts on the show? For those who have seen it, was it worth it? Micah---

Re:Little Mermaid: Tail flip or flop? - 2008/01/16 15:36 My mother-in-law saw it, and didn't say much, so I'm not sure if she really enjoyed it. I've also seen the ABC videos and I like the movement that the heelies give, but the way they have Ariel's tail sticking out behind her with an almost second tail for her legs is a bit weird. I understand they had constraints due to actual legs, but it kinda stood out. Also I know they were going for a Lion King surreal vibe, but the other fish and creatures (as seen in the "Under the Sea" clip) didn't even look like sea creatures or fish. They just didn't try hard enough that way. Especially the "fish girls" who wore flesh colored leotards and sparkles over their boobs.
Have your read Broadway Abrigded's version yet? It's pretty humorous (they usually are).

Re:Little Mermaid: Tail flip or flop? - 2008/01/17 08:55 I am going up to NYC this weekend with my mother to go see a show and this is one of the options. However, after reading some reviews and what not, I am not sure I want to spend all that money to not like the show. But, if I do happen to see this show, I will have to let you all know how it is.

Re:Little Mermaid: Tail flip or flop? - 2008/01/17 11:29 Well back before Actor's Equity got rid of them, their we're clips of the show on youtube actual show footage, like scenes and some songs.

From all the stuff I seen it was excellent, in my humble opinion of course.
The cast is very talented, and I'm quite against liking shows simply for their popularity just because "It's Disney!" like some people seem to do nowadays Haha.

I'm going to New York to compete in National Classical Singer competition in May '08' so I'm going to see it probably I might staying an extra day to see it actually so I'll gladly keep you updated if you'd like!

Re:Little Mermaid: Tail flip or flop? - 2008/01/17 11:44 I wish I could have seen the clips on youtube, that would have definitely been great. And I have nothing against Disney musicals at all, I really enjoy BatB, Mary Poppins, etc. I absolutely love Sherie Renee Scott and am intrigued by the idea of her playing Ursula. I am just concerned, becasue the show just opened and the tickets are bound to be expensive and I hate paying boatloads of money for shows that I am uncertain of how it is going to be. Ahh, I am sure it is great though. Disney shows always have something wonderful in them.
