Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 09:37 Okay . It has been confirmed by multiple sources that one of the major movie companies has the rights to make Wicked the Musical into a movie...

Thoughts? "Celebrity Cast" ideas? Excited? Skeptical? I want to hear y'all's reactions!!

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 09:50 Owning the rights does not mean that a movie is imminent. This article clarifies it fairly well:

Playbill News

It will likely be several years before anything happens, if ever.

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 10:47 I would love it if they had a entire video recording of the Broadway musical, like they did for Cats and Peter Pan. I love the musical and to be honest, I don't have the money to go to New York and see Wicked, and other shows, whenever I want.

With a musical such as Wicked, I can't see it being made into a movie. I mean, if they do, I hope they surprise us with it being fantastical.
Upcoming: US Performing Arts Camps
Currently:
Henrietta (Honk Jr.!)
Nessarose (MdN's Wicked)
Enjolras (ENG)/Eponine (FREN) (Les Miz Online Cast Recording)
Past:
Godspell/Mamma Mia Soloist (Broadway Babies)
Mrs. Johnson (Bye Bye Birdie)

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 14:33 If somebody doesn't make a movie about it, someone will pay for the rights to videotape the stage show and sell that. The show is just too big for them not to. Before any of that happens, through, the producers have to feel they have milked the stage show dry.

Just like when it went from the book to the stage, think of what kind of transformation it will go through if it becomes a full-length feature film! By the time Warner Brothers are through with it, Elphaba will be the meanie again!

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 14:37 I think it could be potentially good! Depending, of course, on who they got to play the parts! I mean, especially since it's a modern musical and everyone is SO used to hearing and seeing Idina and Kristen that it'll be hard to find people to fill those spots. But hey, both of those girls have acted in movies now so maybe, they'll make an appearence?
I think that the scenery and filming could be great. The forest, Shiz, Ozdust ballroom, Emerald city. They could be stunning scenes.
I'd obviously go see it but I mean, everyone has to be skeptical about Musicals turning into Movies.

Currently: Nothing! So sad..

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/08 17:28 Hm, I wonder if they'd keep it exactly like the stage version (plot-wise) or make it more like the book... - Caitlin / Cait -

^True. This is probably a smart course, if it happens at all.

I hope, if they do do it, they'll tape the stage show, as some people ahve suggested. Did they do that for Legally Blonde, too?
Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/09 18:00 I think a Wicked movie is inevitable. A show that big and that "popular" they are going to want to make as much money as they can. I agree they are going to run the stage version until it finally stops selling out before they make the movie. I hope they won't change anything for the movie version. Wicked Rocks the way it is! Favorite Shows: Once on this Island, Wicked, Hairspray
Dream Roles: Ado Annie/Oklahoma, Galinda/Wicked
Last Role: Ti Moune in Once On this Island Jr
In Production: Music Man (teen chorus and dancing)

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/09 20:16 Wicked was origionally supposed to be made into a movie, but then it was decided that it should start as a Broadway Musical first. I would personally love to see a movie version of this, since I live as far away from NY as you could possibly get. I would like to see it with the Origional Cast though, I think it would make it more authentic.

Re:Wicked....the Movie? - 2008/01/25 20:55 While we are on the subject of casting; I think that should cast ME as the Wizard. I can't sing or dance and no one knows who I am, but Hell, you didn't ask "who do you think DESERVES the part?"

Like Daniel Burnham said "make no small dreams; they have no magic to stif Men's blood"!

Looking at your icon/headshot you could be an adorable wizard!!

And I love this idea, Wicked could be a really popular movie.
And there's a good chance they could cast the original leads, so that'd be good.

I'm all for it!
The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?
