WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/04 20:40 For yet another entry into our contest...

Answer the following question...

If you could give your former self (when you first started) one piece of advice about performing, what would it be?

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/04 22:13 I would tell myself that you can't regret anything that you did while auditioning or performing. I could have used this piece of advice before because I would experiment while in rehearsal and be scared that it'll look awful so i'd just stop doing it. But, I was just faced with an audition where I was not likely to get the lead, but I told myself to go in and just come out with no regrets and I did and I got the part. Catherine

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/04 23:07 Don't be afraid to go all out when it comes to performing. Just let yourself be in the moment and feel what's going through the character's head. When I first started acting I used to really overthink my scenes and it led to some really stilted performances. -Georgia

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/05 00:56 I would tell myself to be confident about whatever I do, and to not procrastinate when it comes to preparing for auditions. Peace!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/05 13:44 I would tell myself that I'm much better at auditioning than I thought I was! I wish I would have had more confidence, been more assertive, and not question the choices I made.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/05 19:36 Have fun with your auditions. If you're having fun, you'll relax and get rid of that nervousness and ultimately do better at your audition. You know you can sing, so why not do what you love doing and have fun doing it and not worry about what's at stake or who's in the audience.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/06 19:57 It's okay not to get the part, it doesn't mean you're not talented. Someone else fit the director's vision more than you, c'est la vie.

Though, it is okay to cry too, if you need to. Just don't beat yourself up about it. It's beyond your control after you've walked out of that room and given it your best.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/06 23:20 I would tell myself to not be intimidated by anyone or anything and have faith and confidence in myself when auditioning. I think at first I missed out on some good opporunities because of my confidence but now I know to go for it all and know my worth. Name: Devyn

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/07 11:21 I would tell myself to research the shows/songs more, as the more prepared you are, the better your chances are of getting what you want. I would also have tried to start doing shows/auditions sooner. Anissa

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/07 17:06 Take it seriously and do your research! When I got a great role as my first role, I relaxed, which wasn't good. And I used 'My Favorite Things' for an audition for Cruella in '101 Dalmatians'...oh dear, what a mistake.

oh, and also: don't quit dance lessons! I'm so sorry I decided not to do them anymore when I was seven. tear.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/08 16:39 Don't look disapointed in front of the audition panel after you've performed. They don't want to see it. What they're probably thinking is:'Man, she has a lack of self-confidence, I wonder if she could perform onstage!?' or even 'If she's not happy about her performance onstage, would she do that face so that people pity her?!' and so on.....

So be proud, no matter how it went, because you've had the guts to get up there and perform your little heart out, and that's how you'll get better!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #4 - 2008/01/08 18:01 God has it planned. If you were meant to play a part, you will, just have faith. and if you weren't meant to, then that's okay. One role at a small theatre wont change your life, so don't sweat the small shows.
you'll do great no matter how many chorus roles you play. Your determination is 10 times all of their's.
