Removing Makeup - 2007/12/06 20:57 Lift up your head. Wash off your mascara. Here take my kleenex. Wipe that lipstick away...

We wear a lot of makeup on stage, but how do you get it off? I use Neutrogena makeup removing cloths which work pretty well, although mascara is kind of difficult for them. I was wondering if there's anything better?

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/06 21:17 I love using cleansing cloths. I use the Biore ones for my face because I can get more for less, no other specific reason. They will remove the eye make-up, however I really prefer using an actual eye make-up remover because the eye area is so sensitive. I use the Mary Kay oil free eye make-up remover and it works really well. I've never tried any other brand, but I'm sure there are cheaper ones, available at a drug store, that work just as well.

A lot of my cast mates use baby wipes, but I kind of have to scrub my face to get make-up off when I use those.

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/07 06:04 I've never tried shampoo, and i don't intend to. However, i do use actual eye makeup remover from almay. For my face i use clearisil sensitive daily acne wash and it basically comes right out while clensing your pores! Catherine

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/07 18:12 Ultrabland from Lush and one of their milder toners (I recommend Eau Roma Water) does wonders.

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/07 18:39 I use my regular old face wash for regular old stage makeup.

I used cleansing cloths for Urinetown because I was dirty all over.

Mascara is usually the most difficult thing to remove, but there are new formulations that make a nice coating around the lash and come off with a little water in tiny little tubes. Fiberwig (sephora.com) is the kind that I've been playing with. It's pretty neat stuff. Raccoon-free.

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/17 16:09 I use Pond's wipes. Works well, doesn't irritate skin, and you only need 1-4 wipes depending what show you're in I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/19 17:14 I tend to use vaseline, to avoid having to rub at my skin too much. Vaseline takes off mascara, even, and it isn't as harmful to your skin as some make-up removing cloths. *~Kristina~*

Re:Removing Makeup - 2007/12/20 19:45 I use regular make-up removing wipes for most things, but with the glitter in A Midsummer Nights Dream, I had to take a shower to get it all out and for mascara remover- anyone have any tips on how to remove the mascara? I don't need the types of remover, but I have a feeling that there's an easier way to get mascara off than rubbing your eyes really hard. -Ali

Re:Removing Makeup - 2008/01/03 10:07 I use something called the Oil-Cleansing Method- it takes off everything without stripping your face. My skin has never been so happy!

YUP!
This is what many prof. actors swear by.

Baby wipes are gentle..... and get the ones with NO FRAGRANCE and with Aloe... if it is safe for a baby's butt.. I am sure it safe for your face.

Another UP side.. CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is also my personal choice.

You are JUST removing the makeup, it isn't a Daily Skin Regime or anything.... but if you do it a lot.. say your in a show for a month or longer using makeup 3 to 4 times a week... you should take care of your skin AFTER you remove your makeup....
That is when you can use the expensive stuff.

Oh yeah almost forgot..... Stage Makeup is different than Womens daily makeup... (if your using stage makeup that is) and if your not.. shame on you!
Stage Makeup isn't the best for your skin, but it is getting a lot better.. Ben Nye especially, has worked hard to make stage makeup that is skin friendly...

Re:Removing Makeup - 2008/01/31 14:41 I had to use SOO much makeup for this one show, and because we were cramming so many people into the building, it got really hot, so the make-up artist demanded ALL WATERPROOF. I swear, I wanted to kill her.

I am irish, and I have an awful butterfly blush, so we had to put a green paste on my face first, then foundation. yuck.

For my massive amounts of waterproof mascara, I took a waterproof makeup remover to it. It made my eyes all greasy, but it did the trick quickly. then I washed my face.
I found that if I used clensing cloths, I went through, oh, about 20. So I switched to baby wipes, then I took a hot, damp, towel and rubbed it all over my face, then went along with oxy pads like I use every night.

I was the ONLY one in the show that wasn't COVERED in pimples by closing night!

PS- can you tell I did this a lot? oh my word, that was a LONG run.

Re:Removing Makeup - 2008/02/01 10:49 Cold cream gets red lipstick off really eaisly. Baby oil and eye makeup remover works well for heavy black eye makeup.
All of that had to do with my makeup for Chicago. That was rough. My eyes stung the whole week of our show becuase i'd been putting on and taking off makeup so much!
