Auditioning.........for 2 weeks straight - 2007/11/30 20:35 Ok, i would DEFINATLY love anybody and everybody's opinion on this.

Ok, so i recently (3 days ago) auditioned for Crazy For You for my high school. well, the director decided to start rehersal tomorrow morning with out any cuts, or any characters. it was basically "if you auditioned, come to rehersal tomorrow morning from 8Am-2Pm" and we'll have rehersal like that for TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT before he decides who's in the cast, and who's what character. I'm not only stressed, but a little annoyed and confused.
Any opinions, suggestions, comments?? I just think it's soo weird and out of all the shows, including community theatre, i've been in, this has NEVER happened, and i've NEVER heard of it before!!! Molly Pylylpciev

Re:Auditioning.........for 2 weeks straight - 2007/12/01 00:08 I've gone through that process before. It's weird and frustrating, but it can work in your favor if you suck at traditional auditions (like I did back when i went through this process).

Basically, we did theater games and things like that for the whole time. We were told to imagine we were the character we wanted and behave that way. The show we were doing was an adaptation of "The Princess Bride." I wanted to play Buttercup so badly. Everyone else wanted to be Inigo Montoya. I was cast as Inigo (and well-snubbed for it), so make sure you choices are boldly in the direction you really want.

Funny thing, though. Before the directors read the cast list aloud (no shoving to get to a sheet of paper for us!), they said it should be obvious to everyone at that point as to how the casting went. Yeah, I don't think anyone pegged the bitchy redhead to play a swashbuckler...

But if you have a bad day, you'll have plenty of time to make up for it. No ten minutes max to show them what you can do.

It'll probably be very different for a tap musical, though. Briana

Re:Auditioning.........for 2 weeks straight - 2007/12/12 15:17 I've had auditions like that before & to me it always seems like the director is inexperienced & doesn't know what they are doing & can't make up their minds. There are some directors I WILL NOT ever audition for again because of ordeals like that. Favorite Shows: Once on this Island, Wicked, Hairspray, Legally Blonde

Re:Auditioning.........for 2 weeks straight - 2007/12/13 15:02 The closest i've seen to that was a college production of The tempest by shakespeare. The director wanted to go really avant garde/ experimental with it. so she told us who was in the cast but didn't assign us particular roles until we had worked for 2 or 3 weeks. it was odd, but interesting. just try to stay open to the process, it will be more fun for you.
