As being retired from the business, If you stay in theatre, an agent is not really needed. Beyond theatre, films, t,v,, etc., I would recommend an agency. Most large production companies( even some small ones), generally go through agencies, unless you happen to see an open call, which is usually unlikely, unless they are looking for extras. Many agencies specialize, some only have children, some only union, S.A.G., A.E.A.,or A.F.T.R.A.. Research the agency you choose, see there track record, or your profile may sit and gather dust. Be very careful in selecting an agency. Some charge a fee to take you on, some don't. Decide what you want to do before jumping in. Hope that helps, Good luck!
