Re:agent? - 2007/11/19 12:55 As being retired from the business, If you stay in theatre, an agent is not really needed. Beyond theatre, films, t,v,, etc., I would recommend an agency. Most large production companies( even some small ones), generally go through agencies, unless you happen to see an open call, which is usually unlikely, unless they are looking for extras. Many agencies specialize, some only have children, some only union, S.A.G., A.E.A.,or A.F.T.R.A.. Research the agency you choose, see there track record, or your profile may sit and gather dust. Be very careful in selecting an agency. Some charge a fee to take you on, some don't. Decide what you want to do before jumping in. Hope that helps, Good luck! Retired from the business after more than 35 years doing mostly character roles, Concentrating now on musical theatre, teaching and directing. Active in A.E.A. and S.A.G. Love to help young performers get started

Re:agent? - 2007/11/19 15:42 ^Good advice here!

I have an agent, so I'll try to answer your questions.

I got my agent (ha ha, that sounds funny) two years ago, and so far, I have done extra roles on Law and Order: SVU, The Sopranos (final episode), and The Wedding Album (a pilot, which was scheduled to come ut, but was cancelled at the last minute). I extra'd in a movie, Home, as well, but I found that on my own. My agency has some great workshops, which I really enjoy. I really like my agent- she's very personable and easy to talk to, and I don't feel weird sending her stuff (when I find out about an audition or something, I e-mail it to her so she can look out for it for me).
I'm not sure how close you are to agencies- I'm in PA. But look on the internet (be careful! But many agencies have websites.) The biggest thing is that you do not pay for an agent. They make money when you do!
