For example, this summer I played Orin in Little Shop of Horrors at Tuacahn. It was the very last performance, and during my death scene ("It's Just the Gas"), after I asphyxiated in my gas mask, the dentist's chair that i was sitting in was supposed to be lowered on a hydraulic lift down a trapdoor safely out of view of the audience. Unbeknownst to me, someone had tampered with the adjustable arms on the chair before the show, pulling out a stop on the right arm that le wing free. While the chair was being lowered during the blackout, the arm caugh self on the lip of the trapdoor and began to lift the chair up at an angle. I tried desprately to free the chair without being seen, all the while having a very hard time breathing or seeing because of the gas mask I was wearing. To avoid being seen after the lights came up, I pitched forward into the trap door and the shifting of my weight caused the chair to fall forward with me, pinning my leg at an awkward angle. Still struggling to breathe, I popped my knee out and pulled myself from underneath the chair, ripped off the gas mask, and gulped in air as quietly as I could. I feel like if I hadn't popped out my knee to free myself of the stupid chair, I would have passed out. Kinda freaky at the time, but it was funny seeing everyone react backstage when I dragged myself out of the trapdoor, sweating and exhausted, makeup running and panting hard.Sean

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/21 12:32It was backstage when we were re-weighting one of the curtains. Someone handed me a 40 pound brick instead of 20 and I fell backwards, hit the concrete, and the brick caused a fracture in my ankle.
Luckily the corus I was in didnt have much elaborate dancing so I was alowed to continue with the show. (Didnt need crutches, it was minor)Hey, I'm Andrew. You are?

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/21 16:35well it wasn't exactly life threatening, but once the lights went out in the middle of a performance, plus the music cues kept messing up which was pretty bad for me since i was the one suppose to be playing the piano. we survived though.

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/22 10:01When I was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Veruca, there was a scene where I had to slide down this pole under a trap door. I ranted about wanting a squirrel, and these squirrel puppets would attack me as I acted like they were pushing me towards the garbage shoot. I was on a platform, and at the end of the platform was a box that was supposed to be the garbage shoot. They'd push me in the box, then I'd open the trap door and slide down out of site. I opened the trapdoor one night and went to slide down the pole, but the person who was supposed to be holding the pole steady for me wasn't there. I couldn't yell for them, so I hung on and started to slide. I got about a fourth of the way down when the pole started to fall over. It toppled over and I landed hard on the concrete floor with the pole on top of me. I had a pretty bad headache for the rest of the night as well as a few bruises, but other than that I was okay. This isn't a golf tournament, being loud is more than acceptable!

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/22 10:29In one play I had to step forward to deliver a speech to the audience. On the night, I stepped forward as usual, but my foot went onto the edge of a flat wooden square, it slipped forward and I nearly ended up falling off the edge of the four foot high stage ! Luckily no one noticed and I managed to stop the square before it fell off, and delivered my speech. I seriously thought I was going to fall off! In fact the whole play was a terror, since the main role was on the very edge of losing her voice! Luckily she manged to hold on to the end, because I do not know what we'd have done if it had compeltly gone halfway through!!!

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/23 15:22When I was in Oliver, one of the orphans fell into the orchestra pit (a drop of about 8 feet) on top of the flute player. Amazingly, no one was hurt, not even the flute.

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/23 18:00When I was Mrs MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, we had this massive screen that came on stage in front of the two-story house whenever we weren't in it. So it was always coming on stage just as I was going off [in blackout], and one night, the stage hands weren't paying attention and pushed it right into me! I was pushed up against a wall of the house, but they saw me, and I somehow managed to scramble through to the wings. It was AWFUL- I scratched my face and had to run and put on more makeup!*~Kristina~*

Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/23 18:51When I was in Peter Pan, on my off cast i had to be an indian. i had to where a tube top that was made for someone flat chested and i had to wear a strapless bra. During one show i was doing one of the important dance fight scenes and my tub top fell off and I couldn't pull it up because i didnt have a free hand until the end of the scene. I was afraid i was going to fall out infront of an entire audience including a friend i had known forevers parents. It was the scariest situation of my life.--Ashley-- Current Production: Nothing right now! Re:Scariest thing that's happened to you onstage? - 2007/09/25 21:32During my run of South Pacific, I was coming offstage at the end of a scene and the man who played Billis was late for an entrance. He came rushing through the wing area and due to the darkness did not see me coming down the stairs until the last minute. He threw his hand up as a reflex (to shield from a collision? I'm not sure) and hit me square in the sternum with the heel of his hand. The wind was knocked out of me, and it REALLY hurt. It hurt to breathe for quite a while afterwards, which made singing difficult, but I muddled through. Luckily I had already finished the most difficult songs._____________ Kris MTA Admin

Holy cow! I can't think of any REALLY scary or painful experiences performing , but I've helped with sets and I always get beat up. Hammers seem to gravitate towards me.
