A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 05:22 My friend is auditioning for the role of Philia in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To The Forum" at a community theatre next week. The director is requesting she sing a song a cappella that is not from the show. I'm trying to find her a song that would suit that character. Any ideas?

Re:A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 05:25 OK, I might be wrong, but I think "Hopelessly Devoted To You" from Grease would be good. Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 05:33 While Hopelessly Devoted does convey a similar sentiment, it is pop and therefore entirely the wrong music style for a Sondheim audition. _____________

Re:A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 05:35 OK, what kind of music is in "A funny Thing Happened"? I mean the style of music, if I knew I could help. Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 05:59 What do you think of "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story? Both were written by Sondheim, and express the same idea.

Re:A Funny Thing Happened...audition - 2006/12/23 06:06 Well, he did the lyrics for both. I think it's a pretty good match. Forum is pretty light as far as Sondheim goes, so you don't have to worry so much about doing something "difficult" enough, as with some of his other works. _____________
