Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/10/30 15:42 Save/remember everything from every show that you've done. I wish I still had my accompaniment CDs from the early shows I was in, along with the scripts we got. Auditions, talent shows, and the like are so much easier when you have a wealth of info. Shelby

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/10/30 16:46 In relation to what ASHS said, I would say take a lot of pictures. I've gotten into the habit the last couple of years, but I wish I had taken some for every show.

In general, though, probably 'don't let rejection get to you'.
Auditioning for: Brigadoon, theatre season, American Music Theatre, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, and AMDA.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/10/30 21:28 Definitely take more pictures. Also, I wish I had started performing at an earlier age.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/10/30 21:48 Take more photos, keep in contact with old friends, learn all the card games for backstage entertainment, and learn every improvising trick possible, offstage and on. For example, during SOM, half the nuns had braces and wanted to eat the apples backstage(we didn't have any dinner), but we had no way to cut them. So we chopped them up using bobby pins. To go into acting is like asking for admission to an insane asylum. Anyone may apply, but only the certifiably insane are admitted.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/10/31 20:57 Take tons of pictures and make a scrapbook, that way when you're old and gray you can look back and say "Look how good I looked in that costume!"

Luckily I have a lot of pictures from most of the show's I've done, but unfortunately haven't actually had much time for working on my scrapbook, but when that baby's finished it's going to be amazing!!!

My mom takes hundreds of pictures during each performance so I don't really have a problem with that. Personally, I wish that someone would have told me that you can't get to upset by directors' and costumers' comments. I used to take everything that directors told me really personally. I actually had a couple directors who wouldn't cast me for awhile because I cried too much during rehearsals. I was a little kid though, and I've since learned that directors are just trying to help you, they don't have anything against you.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/11/12 07:51 Take dance lessons if you want to be in musical theatre.
And ditto the "save all music/cds from shows".
I think it is just wonderful that you want to be a nun, and you think it might be fun!

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/11/17 02:02 "Your shirt isn't buttoned"

Honestly, this happened to me. Scary! I was able to get it buttoned (in character, of course ) but, boy, did I get butterflies from that!

I wish someone had told me that if you do get rejected it, usually, isn't because the director hates you. It's because you weren't right for the role.
Is that the smell of sulfur?
Oh its a stage effect!

Release your davits and jump!

-I've had a vision!
-Of disaster?
-No, of azaleas!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again? I do not know the secret, although I know it's true. I hurt them for that reason. And myself a little bit too.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/12/02 05:38 i really wish someone told me "that's WAY too much make up." in my show of oliver last year, i was a pickpocket, and i had dirt make up ALL over my face, but the lady who put it on didnt have time to take some off, there were 10 others to do in less than 15 minutes. and i had too much eyeliner, really bright red lips, and fake looking eyebrows. i looked like a raccoon!!

and "nice underwear." my dress in oliver! zipped up low in the back, and the zipper broke, but i didnt know. no one told me! i walked in front of everyone (including oliver & dodger & fagin) until some girl was like OMG, YOUR ZIPPER BROKE!

i also wish i took more pictures.

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/12/09 19:02 i wish i would have known that in life "everything happens for a reason." last year, i auditioned for my school's dance team, but i didnt make it. i was reeeally devastated because all of my friends were on it and it was really disappointing that i couldnt be on it with them. BUT since i didnt have the dance team, i had room for something else, so i thought hey, why dont i try out for the school play? so i tried out, found out i really had some talent for it, and then i got the lead in our musical, and now . . . i am OBSSESSED!! ooooh yess theatre geek right here! so i try to look at rejections and realize that it wasn't meant to be, but it might work out for the better and it might even open up a new opportunity for me.

and of course, of course, i should ALWAYS take more pictures! never enough! i need more, more i tell you!

Re:DQ: 10/29/06 - Wish You Knew? - 2006/12/12 14:13 I really wish that when I was in 6th grade and decided, "Hey, I like this stage stuff" someone had told me

"TAKE DANCE LESSONS!"

Now here I am, a senior, with next to no dance training. I have begun saturday musical theatre dance class, but it is beginner level. So now instead of planning to major in musical theatre, I'm planning to double major in Voice and Theatre and take beginning dance classes so I can at least stumble my way through dance auditions.

I think there should be a theater gaurdian angel to whisper these things in our ears.

And spanishrose- that is SO great, to get a lead your first try! I wish everybody could get started in theatre so easily!

(Not that having a lead is easy, but i mean not having failed auditions, and tiny chorus roles)
