Re:EMERGENCY- SICK!!! - 2007/02/09 17:12I'm sick too - everyone has been over here! Would any experts comment on the nasal product ZICAM? I've used it ever since I got sick, and it has cut my cold down to two days. (The cold virus nests in the nose and sinus area and this attacks it directly.) Everyone else in my family had to get on antibiotics and it got into their chests! I can't believe how quickly I've gotten over this when I know people who have been sick for several weeks now.
I can instantly tell a difference when I use it, although there is a very very slight momentary 'burn' for the first minute or two. It is a gel, so it doesn't 'drip' down your throat (there is very slight 'burn' in the throat if you sniff, though). I'm going to rely on this product as soon as I feel like I'm coming down with something, especially as potential shows/auditions loom around the corner.
PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS PRODUCT CAN POTENTIALLY EFFECT THE VOICE.
But if you're a vocal expert, maybe you can look in to it? When I first got sick, I tried the 'nasal saltwater irrigation' but all that did is clog my ears up. This nasal product worked SO much better. I'd love to rely on it if it's healthy enough to be used with vocal works in mind.
Being sick stinks! Anything that helps one get over it and helps our voices is magic.Kat ~Future "Belle" Hopeful~

Phlegm gets thicker the less water there is in your body.
As far as being sick goes - phlegmy is a much better sign than dry pain.
Get better soon! xoxo_____________ Kris MTA Admin

Re:EMERGENCY- SICK!!! - 2007/02/09 21:29I LOVE ZICAM. I don't use the nasal swabs, but the dissolving tablets work great. They leave an almost cottony feeling in your mouth, but the stuff really works.
Keep drinking lots and lots of water, and get something like Mucinex. (I prefer the kind that comes in the green bottle.) It dries up any mucus, etc. that you might have hanging around, clears you up, and is a cough suppressant as well. Some stores like WalMart and Target have generic versions which are the same thing but for a MUCH better price.
Oh yes, and don't forget to get enough sleep. It sounds like your body is trying to cure itself of something, so help it out by resting. sweet Alyssa!

Re:EMERGENCY- SICK!!! - 2007/02/12 06:13YES WATER! and i've recently been introduced to Throat Coat tea...it's specifically designed to promote throat health. it's wonderful you throat feels better and clear as soon as you start drinking it! just read the directions first for the best results. what i usually do is drink a cup of the tea when i first get up then nothing but water for the rest of the day. try that and see if it helps!

Re:EMERGENCY- SICK!!! - 2007/02/12 11:47Zicam is great stuff -- our whole family swears by it, and we've tried all the various types it comes in: dissolvables (like Alyssa, I don't like the after-feel/taste), nasal spray (Kat is right, there is a slight burn effect, especially if you accidentally inhale while spraying), and nasal swabs (my favorite). My 10-year-old recently used the kids' version of the nasal swabs, and I firmly believe Zicam turned what would have been a week-long cold into a 3-day minor inconvenience, which was a godsend for his Wizard of Oz audition last week.
Also, during cold season, I like to use an herbal tea called "Gypsy Cold Care" (from Traditional Medicinals) which "promotes respiratory health." It tastes good and inhaling the vapors seems to help keep everything open in your sinuses. Will have to try the Throat Coat, too; do you know who makes it?

Re:EMERGENCY- SICK!!! - 2007/02/13 02:24I love Traditional Medicinals' throat coat tea. It has mallow root and a really delish licorice taste. I do find, though, that more than one cup upsets my stomach a bit, so look out for that.sweet Alyssa!
