see if you can get footage on some hilarious actors, and take notes on their comic timing. i don't know if i'm helping or repeating advice, but also don't be funny, funny, funny, and funny, straight in a row, like some sitcoms, that just have joke after joke... sometimes it works, though. For example, a movie/musical with some fantastic (maybe one of the greatest) comedic actors is: The Producers. Mel Brook's stuff also has major comedy.
Also, i agree with Flece. During our Little Shop, people laughed so hard when Audrey or Seymour WERE being truthful, and trying not to be funny.
