Understudy for Oklahoma! - 2008/01/11 04:51 Hey, I am in a youth theatre company and today i had my first rehearsal for Oklahoma! and the director announced that she wanted the chorus roles to learn some of the lead roles so we could understudy if something happened. I have one singing line and one speaking already, but I want to learn all of Ado Annie's lines because i already know her solo because i sang it for my audition since they said it was fine to sing songs from the play! I might even attempt to learn Laurey's role. The director also said to feel free to show her what we have been working on as understudys! Does anyone have any advice on being an understudy or performing the role of Ado Annie or Laurey? Also i would love to hear some understudy stories, like if u were an understudy and actually had to perform because i have never been an understudy ever and i am curious!!!!! Sorry if this was really long!

Re:Understudy for Oklahoma! - 2008/01/11 23:10 Haha I just commented on another post about being an understudy.

Anywho, an understudy spot is great especially if your also in an ensemble heavy show. It shows your ability to multi-task as an actor, and looks great on a resume!

I don't know anything particularly about Laurey or Ado Annie but how exactly is your director casting understudies? Having whoever he sees fit audition?
Name: Bruce
Current Production: None.
Upcoming Auditions:

The Butler Did It Singing (Chandler)

Re:Understudy for Oklahoma! - 2008/01/12 00:27 Well the director told us she wanted several people to learn the part so if something did happen to one of the leads she would have a variety of people to choose from. -Laura
