Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/11/25 04:59 For the spring musical, my school has chosen to do Peter Pan. We have a huge space for the performance and they've even hired a company that is going to wire us and fly us. Cool, right?

Auditions are in mid-December and I'm looking for an audition song. My voice is pretty well trained and I can sing just about anything (I've done everything from Etta James jazz to soprano Italian arias). I'm hoping and praying for either the role of Peter (a long shot) or Wendy (a bit more realistic).

We only need a song, any genre or period or show, as long as it isn't from the actual show of Peter Pan.

My belting voice goes up to the C in the middle of the treble clef, sometimes the D flat or D when I'm well warmed-up. I know that Peter's songs are pretty low for a woman and involve some belting, but I know nothing about Wendy's songs.

My head voice is well controlled and my transitions are pretty good. Are there any suggestions out there for a song that could maybe combine a strong head voice and strong belt? I really just want to make the audition as good as I can.

Any suggestions are appreciated!! Thanks!

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/07 23:51 I have stumbled upon an old Judy Garland (<3) tune entitled "Johnny One Note" from Babes in Arms. Anyone know the song?

Johnny could only sing one note and the note he sang was this...

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/08 00:19 "Johnny One Note" is one of my favorite songs to sing. I actually sang it when I auditioned for Peter Pan back when I was in high school. It got me cast as Tiger Lily ----------Emily----------

Currently rehearsing:
Urleen - Footloose
Favorite Roles:
Aida - AIida[i], Joanie Lish - [i]The Full Monty, Carmen - Sweet Charity, Crystal - Little Shop of Horrors, Sarah's Friend - Ragtime, Little Red Riding Hood - Into the Woods, Evillene - The Wiz

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/08 02:48 So maybe there are some amazing mystic powers that link that song and Peter Pan together. Hmmm... I'm liking what I hear.

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/08 05:07 I LOVE Johnny One Note. It is so much fun to sing. I sang it at camp for this vocal performance class thing...it was a lot of fun.

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/09 19:44 oooh i love judy garland! i dont know the song johnny one note, but if its high energy and belt then im sure it would work!

i was also thinking that "shy" from once upon a mattress would work really well too, but i have heard it is overdone. (i have that soundtrack drilled into my head since my school is doing it right now!)

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/12 00:08 I love Johnny One Note! It was my project in chorus this semester and it's become one of my main audition songs. I think it'll be great for Peter Pan! Our middle school did it this year and I was on tech crew with all the other high school drama kids so I heard the songs over and over again and Peter doesn't go much higher than that song. She's a serious belter. You should totally sing Johnny One Note. Break a Leg!!! -Georgia

Re:Peter Pan Auditions - 2006/12/13 21:31 Thanks for your all your help, guys. I think that should be a pretty solid audition song and I know Peter's songs are all very similar in range. Any more suggestions, then please let me know. Thanks!!
