Re:EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary!!! - 2008/04/26 13:14
I'm not very familiar with that show, either, but according to the database on this site, Mary is supposed to be around ten years old. She is one of Will's four children. She doesn't appear to have any solos, but may sing in the ensemble and do some acting. (If I'm wrong, maybe someone who knows better can correct me?)
If that's the case, you'll want to pick something that's age-appropriate for her. "If My Friends Could See Me Now" is a great song, but it might be a bit crass for a ten-year-old. Actually, I can't think of any Coleman songs that are for children. In the "Tips" section of this site, there are some tips for choosing kids' audition songs. Maybe that can give you some ideas.
Although it is technically a "contemporary" musical, it is set on the 1920s/30s vaudeville, and Will Rogers was a country-western entertainer. I listened to some clips from the soundtrack on amazon.com, and those two styles are present in many of the songs, albeit with some modern twists.
