What do I make of this? - 2008/04/15 13:07 I recently on the 12th of April, auditioned for the American Musical and Dramatic Arts Academy.

I met some wonderfully nice people, a cute boy, and some more nice people, AND one of my good friends had been auditioning for the school with me as well.

The audition went well, but I'm still unsure of what to make of it all. Before the audition the gentleman who worked for admissions and was interviewing us all had told us that the director was a casting director from NYC. For the most part I kept my cool, trying to be as relaxed as I could and channel my nervous energy into my audition. So I did well, but the pianist acting as if he didn't know that D sharp and E flat were the same thing so he was screwing up some of the chords in my piece.
"Stranger in Paradise" from Kismet.

The casting director was very nice, he even made little talk about me graduating from high school and talking about how exciting that it is to be doing so. After I sang my 32 bars, he made me repeat it with no vibrato. I did so, with virtually no vibrato and still sounded pretty good.

He didn't really write much either. I really don't know what I can make of this. I'm not very good at reading directors either.

WHAT DO I MAKE OF THIS?
Name: Bruce
Current Production: None.
Upcoming Auditions:

The Butler Did It Singing (Chandler)

Re:What do I make of this? - 2008/04/15 13:27 this is hard advice, but: don't make anything of it. it is what it is. you could spend weeks agonizing over what this meant or that meant and how you should interpret the director's behavior. but you don't know the director's style, some directors write a lot if they like you others don't write a thing because they like you and write like hell if they don't. you have no frame of reference to draw conclusions so all you can do is drive yourself nuts, which isn't good. try to look at any audition objectively as a way to prepare yourself for the next audition. what do YOU think you could have done better? what do YOU think you should be most proud of. make a mental note of your own conclusions and then move on to the next audition. whatever is going to come out of this audition will come of its own accord. it's out of your hands. que sera... etc. Chris
