Annie is meant to be about 16 if you follow the actual biographical story but is usually cast about mid to late twenties in professional productions (unless you are 52 and Bernadette Peters, in which case she somehow got away with it although not to my taste).
A southern American accent is required for this part, listen to some of that while watching appropriate films (not Vivien Leigh in Gone with the wind, horrible accent).
I played Annie at drama school and loved it.
