Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/28 19:41 I have an audition coming up for Bye Bye Birdie. It's my first musical theatre audition, and I need help choosing a song.
I'm 14, and I'm a Soprano G3- E6. I'm going for chorus role (Helen, Nancy, Suzie...)

Songs I am considering:

Good Morning Baltimore
My New Philosophy

Are these good choices? I need some other suggestions.

Re:Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/28 20:02 Those 2 sound pretty good. Since Bye-Bye Birdie is a 50's musical, you would want to find something of that style and era. You could probably find some other 50's songs that aren't from a musical and use them also. Also, listen to the the recording of Birdie and become familiar with the songs actually in the show in case they ask you to sing from the score. Be ready for anything they ask.

Re:Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/28 20:47 Good Morning Baltimore might be a little overdone, but i would definitely look at some non-musical songs from the 50's. Break a leg at the audition!!! -Laura

Favorite Musical: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!! As for more "happy" musicals i like BATB and Music Man (and lots of others, that i can't think of right now!)

Next production: R&H Cinderella?

Re:Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/29 06:15 You want to show off a legit soprano (which the above 2 songs don't show off) - also they are overdone I would say. Try and find something between 1945 and 1960 written by someone like Rodgers & Hammerstein. Songs from the 50's that are not from a musical may be too "rocky", so be sure you choose something that still sounds very MT if you decide to go down that route.

Re:Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/29 11:22 Also, if your a legit soprano, maybe you should try for Kim, if your willing to take on a lead role so quickly. She's a soprano and the rest of the girls are mezzo/altos. If you feel you aren't ready for it, you should sing something that shows off a really high mezzo. Maybe something from the Buddy Holly Story but find music. Some sites where you can download and buy music, you can change the key that it is for.

Grease is another suggestion for a musical from which you can get songs from.
Upcoming: US Performing Arts Camps

Nessarose (MdN's Wicked)
Enjolras (ENG)/Eponine (FREN) (Les Miz Online Cast Recording)

Mrs. Johnson (Bye Bye Birdie)

Re:Bye Bye Birdie-First Audition - 2008/03/31 18:01 What about "A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella? This will show off a lovely legit soprano range and if well acted while singing, a sweet innocence needed to play Kim. Currently playing: Lily! (Secret Garden)
