Music Man Audition Question - 2008/03/12 17:40 I need a song for a Music Man audition. They're specifically auditioning teens, but I'm only 14 and look remarkably young for my age which can't help.

Nevertheless, I need a song preferably written for tenor or baritone. Any ideas?

I've been working on Not While I'm Around from Sweeney but that would be terribly inappropriate considering the setting and style of Music Man.
Current role: none
Recent roles: The Stingiest Man In Town [ensemble], Bye Bye Birdie! [ensemble/Ed Sullivan], High School Musical [Troy. Don't judge me.]
Dream role: Toby in Sweeney Todd, Billy Flynn in Chicago
Upcoming auditions: Jekyll and Hyde, Grease

Re:Music Man Audition Question - 2008/03/12 22:59 You don't say if you just want to be in the ensemble or if you want to try for a role. If you are familiar with the music, you can tell that it is a good old fashioned show. I would sing something older and more traditional for the audition. Try looking at Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals or Lerner & Loewe. Are you a good dancer? There is a role for a teenage boy who can dance called Tommy Geeliss (Ok I can't spell his last name, sorry ). You say you look young, but if they cast a young looking girl to play opposite him "Zaneeta", you might have a chance. It all depends on the competition. Tommy just sings chorus numbers has some lines and is a featured dancer. Break A Leg!

Re:Music Man Audition Question - 2008/03/14 15:19 When I auditioned for Music Man I debated between "It takes a woman" from Hello Dolly or "There is a sucker born every minute" From Barnum

Re:Music Man Audition Question - 2008/03/14 15:35 "Almost like being in Love" from "Brigadoon" is a good song , but usually is done by someone older. "Beauty School Drop Out" from "Grease" is fun, but may not fit your audition.. Good Luck! Retired from the business after more than 35 years doing mostly character roles, Concentrating now on musical theatre, teaching and directing. Active in A.E.A. and S.A.G. Love to help young performers get started
