If they say it is OK ---- it is OK to sing from the show. If you are auditioning for a specific role in the show, I would sing one of the songs that the role would actually sing. Dress a little (not an exact costume, but suggest) like the character too. Let them see you like the role. Don't let them have to use their imagination to see you as the role. Have other music that is not from the show prepared, just in case they ask for it. Always be prepared for anything.
I use to do lots of community theatre and it was very common to sing right out of the score. However, at professional auditions, one never sings from the score unless asked specifically to do so. At a professional audition, one often is asked to sing from the score at call-backs. However, for community theatre or at some schools, the director doesn't care and it actually helps them. But make sure to find out in advance if it is OK - which you indicate that you have done.
