Audition for a vocal beginner... - 2008/03/01 00:05
Hi all (I actually have an old account here but can't remember the name ), I was after some help for an audition coming up in about ten days. My girlfriend is an experienced actor and director in amateur theatre, and she now wants to have a crack at a production of Sweeney Todd coming up soon.
She hasn't had any vocal training, been in any musicals, etc., and I'm trying to give her a crash course, but I don't really have much idea of what I'm doing (I've been in choirs and musicals for years but I've never been formally trained).
Can anyone recommend any general tips to give a beginner in this situation? And any tips for improving range in such a short amount of time? She's planning on singing Paper Bag by Fiona Apple, which she can cover range-wise (except it's a bit mid-rangey, which you kinda need a voice like fiona apple's to pull off ), but I don't really know how to coax her full voice out, it's sounding a little timid, for lack of a better word.
Any help would really be appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, she's basically going for a chorus role. She's a great actor and will be all over the Mrs. Lovett audition dialogue, we just need to show enough vocal strength to get her into the ensemble : ).
