Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2007/12/31 23:00 I was most recently in Our Town at my school, and there aren't (really) any songs in that, so, I'll go with the last musical I was in: Oklahoma! I would really recommend "I Cain't Say No!" but, unfortunately, it is overdone, as I've heard on this site. So I'll recommend "Out of My Dreams" it's a gorgeous song that provides for a good opportunity to show your acting ability, and it's not overdone either (from what I've heard)! Peace!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 00:34 The most recent show I performed in was Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. For one's audition repertoire, I would recommend In My Own Little Corner for a soprano/mezzo/alto, Loneliness of Evening for a tenor/baritone, or When You're Driving Through The Moonlight/A Lovely Night for a soprano/mezzo/alto. There are also several duets such as Ten Minutes Ago, Stepsisters' Lament, and Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful if a duet was needed. Each of these songs can be acted out beautifully and are not too difficult to learn. This would most likely help a young teenager on their first audition because everyone knows Cinderella and it's very easy to catch onto. Catherine
currently: Babette/silly girl #1 BATB
next: audition for Chicago!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 02:05 I added "Simple Joys of Maidenhood" from Camalot. I choose it because it was a longer song so I could work on sustaining energy and momentum throughout the entire piece, and also because of the spoken part in the center of the song. The song gave me a flying colors on my exam, and I plan on possiblly using it for my auditions this summer. Melissa

Currently:
None, waiting till college christmas show starts up again

Recently:
Miss Gloria Thorpe in Damn Yankees
Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods
Aunt Eller in OKLAHOMA!

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 04:00 My most recent addition is "What is a Woman?" from I Do! I Do!. I never got to use it, though. We were running really late and had to cut our auditions down. I did it well in class, though! Maddy, aka minesayrejoice, GreenGirl, GavrocheGrrl, EriksWife (Erik'swife), and jewelkat.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 14:06 My most recent audition piece is "Always True to You in my Fashion" from Kiss Me, Kate. I auditioned for She Loves Me at my local theatre and i really wanted the role of Ilona who is a woman who is often used by men and "always in the dark". I did not get the role because i am only 16, but it was most people's favorite audition because i danced and i really seemed alot older when i was singing about being "true...in my fashion" and sneakin around just a little. it was fun. Also, it was in my range and it was a funny, yet dramatic song.

the day after this post i added "Freddy My Love" From Grease for [i]bye bye birdie[i] auditions and i got the role of ursula. i chose that song because not only would it familiarize me with the show (we're doing grease this summer), but it also fit the character i was auditioning for: Kim. Also, I could have fun with it, while still being perfectly in my range.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 15:52 I was just in the ensemble of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and I would highly reccomend "A Change in Me" for young women. I would expect that Belle's song "Home" is probably overdone, and I don't think it has the dramatic and emotional impact that "Change in Me" has. "Me," Gaston's song, would be a hoot to sing in an audition, because it's so over the top (If I were male, I would LOVE to play Gaston!). The Beast's song "If I Can't Love Her," is a good one. It's very poignant, so a person who sings it in an audition would have to maintain emotional intensity throughout the song.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 18:56 I recently added the song 'Someone Like You' from 'Jekyll and Hyde' to my collection. I haven't had the opportunity to use it in an audition yet (the next musical is gasp! 9 months away) but it's a great mix of vocal range for a mezzo-soprano and conveyable (that is my new word) emotion. -Ali

Currently:
-Sheila; Boys Next Door (postshow depression mode)
-acceptance to acting ensemble
-Bye Bye Birdie (audition- didn't get a callback)

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 21:14 My recent addition is "Romance" from The Desert Song. I haven't used it yet, but will for my next Gilbert and Sullivan audition, which will be in the spring. It was successful for the girl who is playing Yum-Yum in The Mikado right now.
It is beautiful, has uptempo and ballad portions, and goes up to a high B flat.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/01 21:28 My most recent audition piece is "Make Believe" from Show Boat. I've always loved the song; I think it's beautiful. I figure I could use this for many early era Broadway shows. I haven't actually used it yet - for a Kiss Me Kate audition - but I have been singing around and the responses I get are all positive, so I think this is a good addition for me. Name: Devyn

Option two - 2008/01/02 13:39 I finished performances of the lesser known delight "She Loves Me" in November. It's such a wonderful show with great music for auditions.

For lyrical sopranos
"Will He Like Me"
"Dear Friend"
Amalia's part in "I Don't Know His Name"
don't use "Vanilla Ice Cream" as it is overdone.

For altos
"A Trip to the Library" (tricky but good)
"I Resolve"

For tenors
"Try Me" (younger male)
"Tonight at 8" (almost a patter song)
"It's Been Grand (Knowing You)"
"She Loves Me"
The first part of "Romantic Atmosphere"

For the older male
"Days Gone By"

For Very High Tenors:

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/02 18:18 I've been teching for the past couple years but I would like to get back into performing. The couple of songs I have been stuck on and would use for an audition are "A New Life" from Jekyll and Hyde or "Tell Me On A Sunday", which is actually, now that I think about it, the song I used for my last audition. I love both songs and both work for my range.

Re:WWYDGFC Contest: Challenge #3 - 2008/01/03 22:13 The last show I did was "A Christmas Carol". It was a really awesome production that used new arrangements of tradtional carols. It did have one original song but since it's not an officially published show there's no way for anyone to use it as an audition piece. However, if you ever have an audition that asks for a Christmas carol as your song (for shows like this one), I suggest "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear". It's just so pretty and it sounds good no matter who sings it. -Georgia

Current Show: West Side Story - Clarice
Recent Shows: Carousel - Principal Dancer, Ensemble, A Christmas Carol - Lily, Charwoman, Charitable Gentleman, Principal Dancer, Ensemble; Rootabaga Stories-multiple roles; Joseph... Dreamcoat -Wives Chorus
