My first public (internet) performance! - 2008/01/06 19:33 Hi guys; I've been taking music theatre singing lessons for almost a year now, so decided it's about time someone OTHER than my singing teacher heard me sing, so I joined this.

Here's a link to me singing Sondheim's "Soon" from a little night music. Sorry about the bad mixing - any feedback appreciated!

Re:My first public (internet) performance! - 2008/01/20 19:57 Beautifully done!
I'll hopefully I find a way to record myself to post eventually.

My critique for you is to really work on your breath support, it'll help alot on the phrases that were hard to maintain your air on.

Re:My first public (internet) performance! - 2008/01/23 18:23 I love that song! Your tone is awesome just work on your breathing like Bruce said. Keep it up - how much do you think you've improved with the lessons? I like to hear people's experiences - I haven't had luck in finding a good private teacher yet. Name: Devyn

Re:My first public (internet) performance! - 2008/01/25 12:14 Well I've been having lessons for a year and heading for Grade 5 musical theatre (London College of Music). I find I've improved dramatically thanks to my teacher; I still have some major problems though, but a lot better than it was!

I think the best thing is to find a teacher who is an all-rounder. Like someone who maybe has a bit of a grounding in classical as well as musical theatre, as it means they are quite open-minded and can pluck the best from a load of different techniques. Although Musical Theatre and Classical are quite different, things like tone production and control, projection etc are quite similar and everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.
