DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/03 16:19When I was playing Baby June and Annie in Way Back on Broadway I had a little girl (probably 5 or 6) and her older sister come up to me after the show. The little girl told me that she wanted to be like me and the older sister asked me if I was the little girl who played Annie at the Muny (A local regional theatre that is CRAZY hard to get in to). That made me SO HAPPY!
Also, I do not consider myself a dancer... AT ALL. Recently I was casually talking about my previous show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with my current choreographer. I mentioned how I was called back for a wife, but because my dance skills were lacking and that I had NO dance training what so ever, I was put as Youth Chorus Captain. She did not believe that I had no dance training and even asked my mom, because she thought that I was lying to her!
We've All Have those comments, that feedback that will make your day, week or maybe even month. What are some of the nicest compliments that you have ever received?Auditioning For- Bye Bye Birdie (Hoping for Kim for Ursula)

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/04 00:32Doing King and I, our Anna came to me and told me how good I was, and that the director would go on about how happy he was with my work, and that he never said that about anyone. Ever. I also did end up receiving a complimentary note from him down the road. That Lun Tha and I "had it" from the beginning. During the same production, our Lady Thiang (who had played Tuptim when she was my age) also told me that I was doing very well. She has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard, and since she'd done the role, it was a huge compliment. And then, the big one was the music director for the show. I'd heard all sorts of horror stories from Anna and Thiang about how unpleasant she was to work with, and that she always gave leading ladies a hard time. I was terrified when she started working with us.. At the wrap up party, she came over to me and said "If you ever want to start seriously doing [theatre], give me a call. And that's not an offer I make many people, but you really have a beautiful voice." Unfortunately, I was moving out of town not long after, so I couldn't take her up on her offer.. I hope to in the future, though.
Oh, and a little girl came over after one night and gave me a hug. That made my day, because when I was little and went to see plays, I always wanted to talk to the characters (didn't distinguish actors from characters) and give them a hug.Kathleen Sera Current Shows: Aloha Pinafore - Volga Upcoming Auditions: Crazy For You - Irene Roth

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/05 23:05Last summer I played Tumnus in a production of Narnia The Musical. I received A LOT of positive feedback about my performance - including numerous compliments from noted local directors/actors and even a few vocal coaches from some nearby colleges. Very exciting stuff.
So a few months later, I was playing a fairly small role in a lesser-known show at a local regional theatre company. While I was signing autographs after one show, a woman approached me with a whole group of little girls (probably around age seven or eight). She said excitedly, "Oh my goodness... Didn't you star as Tumnus in Narnia? You are so talented! I brought these same girls to see that show too, and you were their favorite part in both shows!" I just graciously thanked her and signed the girls' autograph books, but OH MY GOSH - THAT IS SO COOL!
It was SO flattering to be recognized, especially since I couldn't have been any less recognizable! In Narnia, I was fully equipped with Tumnus's ginormous goat-like thighs, an airbrushed beard, and my natural and wild curly hair. In the second show, I wore pleather pants and a long, straight, NEON PINK wig!
It's so great to have people compliment you in the first place, but to hear that you are their favorite and for them to recognize you... Amazing!! My Name Is: Lisa! And I'm fifteen! Upcoming Auditions:The Pajama Game Favorite Roles: Tumnus in Narnia The Musical & the Narrator (the Artful Dodger) in A Christmas With Scrooge.

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/06 00:59I don't know if I would consider this the best compliment, but it is definitely my favorite:
After a production of Shenandoah (my first show with a role where I got to sing solos) an old man came up to me and pointed to my picture in the program along with the photo of the other female lead and said that we should get together and record a CD! It was so sweet!
The oddest: I can't do pointe but I played a role that required it (Leo in Nunsense) so instead I did the ballet scene on roller skates and after every performance I got so many compliments on my skating abilities I never knew roller skating could be so impressive!~Annie Recently: Pick-A-Little-Lady (The Music Man), Miss Thorn (Ruthless! the Musical), Emma Carew (Jekyll & Hyde)

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/06 01:13Just tonight, a young girl in our cast whom I'd never met before came up to me just to tell me she thought I was pretty. That made my day!
But I think the best one I ever got was when I finished singing a song and my voice teacher told me she had chills and that the little hairs on her arms were standing up on end. She's a pretty tough customer, so I felt like I really must've done something extraordinary to deserve that compliment!-- Kari

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/07/13 12:48When I was playing Troy in High School Musical, every show little kids would ask for my autograph, which, in addition to being a little bizarre, was kind of cute.
Oh, and after one show, on of my good friends walked up to me and said really loudly, "I didn't know you could actually sing!!!" Um, thank you?Current role: none Recent roles: The Stingiest Man In Town [ensemble], Bye Bye Birdie! [ensemble/Ed Sullivan], High School Musical [Troy. Don't judge me.] Dream role: Toby in Sweeney Todd, Billy Flynn in Chicago Upcoming auditions: The Music Man, possibly Beauty and the Beast [if I'm desperate]

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/08/08 13:24at my theatre camp this summer, i was miranda in the tempest. someone came up to me and asked me how old i was. when i said i was 14, he said that i was a really good shakespeare actress for only 14. it made me very happy, even though the part was not hard to play once you understood the language (which is much easier than people think).Maria

Re:DQ: 7/3/07- Best Compliment - 2007/08/10 12:19Back in the mid 80's I was in a show off-broadway and a rather well known composer... (that starts with S)... came backstage and was looking around.. when he saw me he headed in my direction, I knew who he was of course, and was freaking out. I still remember his exact words
"You SHINE when your onstage. You just SHINE!"
At first I thought - 'oh crap I forgot to powder my makeup!' But then it sunk in. It was a compliment.
It was a moment I will never forget, and probably the best moment of my life other than the birth of my daughter and grandkids. Currently Directing - Sweeney Todd (March 2008)
Currently In - Jan 11 - Feb 3 2008 Moonlight And Magnolias - Ben Hecht (non musical)
