sweeney todd! - 2007/06/10 14:41 Ok so it wasn't THAT recent but my high school performed Sweeney Todd on April 18-21. I have to say, it was quite possibly my most rewarding theater experience thus far.
I auditioned for the show in January not really expecting to get in because I am only a Freshman and in a High School show of this difficulty, you would think they would be looking for more experienced actors. Fortunately and to my surprised I was casted in ensemble (one of 6 freshman) and we began the EXTREMELY difficult road to our production.
The show turned out fabulous. Though it was difficult getting there, we pulled it off. This really is probably one of the most difficult ensemble shows out there and im SO proud of everyone.

Re:sweeney todd! - 2007/06/30 19:33 I realize this is sort of late, but I watched the video. They are fantastic. I go to a school of 400 kids, so we never get people with talent like that.

The last amazing show we did was like 5 years ago. We always have one or two really talented people, and then a bunch of people who are not very good at all.

ya it just kind of sucks because our sweeney was a senior and we dont have too much more male talent but lovett was a junior and she is now the vice president of our drama club

Re:sweeney todd! - 2007/06/30 23:02 The voices are pretty good, although Mrs Lovett really could have used a dialect coach.

You must've had a brave director, to attempt a show like that in highschool.

Re:sweeney todd! - 2007/06/30 23:42 I love the music of Sweeney, and I must say it is not easy. I meant for highschoolers they are fantastic. I don't know many highschoolers who could handle those parts.

And the director must have been very brave. Our school does shows like Grease and still wrecks them. A few years back they got brave and did Into the Woods. They planned on doing the whole thing, but two weeks before opening night they cut out the second act. They couldn't do it all. Like I said, I'd kill for a school with talent like yours.

even being ensemble was a challenge and it was just a fabulous experience. if you want a crash course in hardcore singing and acting, this show is perfect. there is so much you can do with a character, even in the ensemble. in fact, you look kind of ridiculous if you DON'T have one lol
if i were to do it again though I would probably be more ambitious and try for the beggar woman. i just wanted to get INTO this one so that would be fun
