soo it happened... - 2008/01/31 17:06 ...you start to develop a little crush on one of your co-stars. I know it has happened to everyone, im hoping, but how did you deal? Is it completely unprofessional or is it like ok and cool. Even though this is a HS show, we keep everything extremly professional..... Catherine

You sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/01/31 20:03 I am rather ashamed to say, it has happened to me..
All I can say is..
Just keep your cool and don't let it effect your preforming. Also, don't freak him out. (As a sort of pshyco-hyper theatre person, I don't have the greatest track record with guys, but then again, I don't know many real theatre guys..)

Sorry for rambling in my parenthesies...

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/01/31 21:45 Do NOT act on it until the run of the show is over. Otherwise, you risk causing huge problems and in all likelyhood it will not stay between the two of you. _____________

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/01/31 23:38 You can like him. Just don't get all weird and nervous around him, then you will mess up! I also wouldn't tell him (if u do, do it after the show is over)! Just try to remember when you are on stage you are both entirely different people! -Laura

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/01 09:38 I have never really had a crush on any of my co-stars. There are some that I think are really cute. One of them, who is in Bye Bye Birdie with me, is playing my son and well, that's just weird. However, just don't act on it and try to be cool about it. Just have fun being friends while your acting for the duration of the show. :] Upcoming: US Performing Arts Camps

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/01 10:55 Ohhh showmances! I've had two, and whoops, bad idea.

One was during a show where my good guy friend and I were in love. He had a girlfriend for about a year and they were both my friends. I think it was the combination of having to be in love with him every day for two months that kind of tricked my mind into thinking I was. It ended up fine, but it was weird. I never acted on it.
Second, during Chicago, I had a crush on my friend playing Fred Casely. We'd been good friends but spending a whole summer with him and traveling to Scotland, just got us really close. One night, I kinda burst and told him I liked him. That did NOT end up well. Still today, things are kind of weird. At the time I told him, he had a girlfriend as well. The rest of the week in Scotland was veryyy awkward after that. One night, we got in a fight about it and had to do a street performance that next day. He had to lift me up in Razzle Dazzle and he dropped me because we both didn't want to be around eachother. Be careful, it can end up bad.
But, I totally know where you're coming from. It's inevitable!
Good luck!

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/01 10:55 Haha, that happens to me ALL the time. like every time i do a show...
anyways, i agree with everyone else. just be calm, and wait to do anything until after the show. since it's a HS show, i assume he goes to your school? After it's over, anything (well, not ANYTHING) goes!

Good luck!

That is why i have a strict "don't tell your crush you like him" policy. He usually finds out anyways because i am HORRIBLE at trying not to blush!

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/01 16:24 Yeah I developed a crush on a guy friend during BatB but never acted on it and realized he was more like a brother! It took me awhile because he's really huggy and stuff like that lol. It would be really awkward if I told him since I know he doesn't like me like that and he's a year younger! I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/02 12:43 lol well.... i've had a crush on one of my theatre friends for 2 years now. Yes, im pathetic. But its a weekly on and off thing.... one day i only think of him as a friend, then the next i go crazy over him....

But I don't like dating at my age. i find over the top highschool PDA gross. And he's my friend, and I want to be friends for as long as possible, instead of dating for 3 months then never speak again (thats usually the average amount of time, which is also why I don't date, hehe). it kind of sucks, but it's smart. Though sometimes i think he actually likes me back, and its scary... lol

One thing I'd tell you is to wait and see if he likes you. If he does, don't jump right into a relationship, let it fall into your lap, and be careful!!! or you might just turn out to be good good friends, which is still great.

Re:soo it happened... - 2008/02/02 15:27 I've definitely had a crush or two on guys I've done shows with. But I agree that over-the-top high school PDA needs to stop. A friend of mine started dating this guy we're in a show with at our school and now it's borderline grotesque. They're always all over each other. There's a fine fine line between cute and gross. <3
