Across the Universe - 2007/10/14 00:37 OMG- (and i don't pull out the netspeak too often, so this is really and truly OMG)

Across the Universe is seriously one of the most awesome movies I've seen this year. Honestly.

It's a movie-musical type deal- all Beatles' songs. It's about the whole 60s turmoil with Vietnam and Civil Rights and drugs... Oh, it blew me away. It made me cry, laugh, and nearly pee my pants. A friend who sat next to me described it perfectly as '2hr 18 min cinematic orgasm.'

I have to agree. The singing isn't mind-blowing, but it's heartfelt. Visually it is AMAZING! The choreography is really different, but it's amazing! (Particularly the scene where one character is drafted and shows up at the induction center. "We Want YOU!")

So- seriously, you should go see it. Don't listen to critics, because it is totally worth seeing. I LOVED it.

Upcoming: Senior Year!
Most recent: Maria in Sound of Music

Re:Across the Universe - 2007/10/14 12:04 I saw it two nights ago. It really was amazing. I really liked the gospel rendition of Let it Be and the rest of the songs were really good as well. The visuals were all amazing. I also really liked the I Want YOU scene as well as all the army scenes.

It just opened in our theatre...don't know why it's been so long....and is completely sold out...I'll have to wait for awhile to get tickets, but it looks AMAZING!

Re:Across the Universe - 2007/10/15 14:51 I'm not sure if I'd like it. I mean, I love anything with music, but the thing is The Beatles are my favourite band, and all the songs are from them. I realise that they didn't just steal the music, but I find it sad that they took different singers and changes parts of the tunes... Obviously, The Beatles copyrights are NOT cheap, but still.

Re:Across the Universe - 2007/11/01 00:53 There are a couple of trippy moments, but that's because of what the characters are experiencing It was the sixties, after all.

I loved it, and really appreciated the artistic elements of it. The songs were fairly well done, too. I went and got the deluxe soundtrack..

Personal favorites were the trippy scenes... Bono's I Am The Walrus, and Eddie Izzard's Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite.
