Performing Arts School - 2007/08/29 11:43 Ok, i've been searching high and low to find a great Performing Arts Bording School (High School). I've looked and looked...searched the internet, asked teachers, ect. and i can't find anything!! Ever since i was in like 5th grade, i've always planned to go to a Performing Arts High School. And now, i'm beginning to realize that i only have a couple of years to make that dream a reality..not to mention, i would benifit SOO much more from a Performing Arts school then my regular High School (which is currently soo small and has only 2 "musical theatre" related classes- Choir and Music App.).
So if anybody has any experience or knows of any great Performing Arts Boarding Schools, please let me know!!! I (and my parents) would like one preferably on the east coast but we're willing to go farther if it's a great school.
Time is running out!!

thanks!!
Molly

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/08/29 14:01 You could try North Carolina School of the Arts or Interlochen Arts Academy. I've always wanted to go to a performing arts high school but my parents always say no. I look at the application requirements every year though. haha

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/08/29 19:50 Now, I know it's definitely NOT on the east coast, but I know of a really great school! I have a few friends who attend the Idyllwild Arts Academy in Idyllwild, California. It's about 2.5 hours from both Los Angeles and San Diego (it's up in the mountains and has a GORGEOUS campus).

They have programs in theatre, creative writing, dance, film, music, visual arts, and more - in addition to academics!

Here's their website:

Best of luck finding the right school!

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/08/29 19:59 Yea, i've heard of Interlochen (i actually thought about doing the summer program next year) and i think a girl from our school is currently going there as a senior, if i'm thinking of the same school.
I just looked at the North Carolina School of the Arts site and already i'm going to put it on my list to talk to my guidance councelor at my current high school about! I'm still searchin, tho.
Thanks soo much!!!!

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/08/29 20:03 Thanks so much "dreams4drama" for the suggestion. i looked at the site and my parents were like "i know this is your carrer and everything...but i love you too much to send you that far away" as to wich i responded with "Mom, your response SHOULD be 'i love you too much to keep you here in this small town with liimited opportunity'"
maybe that'll sink in and then distance won't become an issue!
thanks, tho!!!

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/10/06 21:10 HI! I'd also need help with schools. Next year, I'm entering high school, and I can't decide between a catholic french high school (which my brother attends) or go to a public english performing arts school (well,Im not sure if its only perfomings arts, I think they have more ). I have met and seen many students who graduated from that school and they are SOOO talented.

The only reason I'm hesitating is because my whole life I went to a french catholic school, and I'm afraid that the change might be dramatic. You see, even though I have straight A's, I'm afraid that it might be difficult to adjust. They DO offer french immersion for most of the classes, but is it the same? And will my french accent cause me trouble?

And that school doesn't have the best reputation ever, there's over 2000 students there, so go figure who many of them may be drug addicts and freaks. But should I let them stop me from following my dreams?!

I'm really lost, and I need some advice. I'm nervous because the auditions for entering the programs (the have drama, dance, vocal) start in February, I think I'll audition for the 3 of them, but I'd like to start with dance first so I could get better in english.

So please, tell me what you think!

Re:Performing Arts School - 2007/10/29 16:29 FYI, NCSA only has a theatre program for senoir year of high school. I live in NC and have had friend who auditioned for the senoir year program who. They all said it was very difficult to get into (none of my friends have gotten in the HS program, I have one friend who is a freshman in college at NCSA). Not to discorage you or anything. Also there is LaGuardia Arts in NYC and Baltimore School for the Arts in Baltimore. These are both public high schools, not bording schools but just thought I'd mention them. Good luck with your search and I'm sure you LOVE NCSA! Is that the smell of sulfur?
Oh its a stage effect!

Release your davits and jump!

-Of disaster?
-No, of azaleas!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain: who understands the secrets of the reaping of the grain? Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, or why we all must die a bit before we grow again? I do not know the secret, although I know it's true. I hurt them for that reason. And myself a little bit too.
