Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/07/10 08:48It was an experience - I enjoyed myself when I saw it, and could easily see why it won at the tony's - there hasn't been anything NEW since RENT (unless you count Ave Q but that is a whole other story) But I wasn't overcome with adoration or anything. Not one of my top 10.
I don't see it having a huge life after broadway - not many community theaters would do it I don't think. Altho, they SHOULD.
In life - people swear, people get nakid, people have sex. And trust me, if the B word was too much for you, you would not like other songs in the show.
i think the amazing thing is it is base on a play written in the late 1800's Which was banned when it first came out. Gosh we have come such a long way haven't we? (that was a snide comment) LOLCurrently Directing - Sweeney Todd (March 2008)
Currently In - Jan 11 - Feb 3 2008 Moonlight And Magnolias - Ben Hecht (non musical)

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/07/11 07:25I really want to see this musical. The songs I've heard seem really good and the story(as mentioned above) seems very controversial and that intrigues me Things people don't like I seem to flock to. I can't wait to buy the ST and find a bootleg. The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/07/12 08:35I saw it and think it's really overrated. It's not really a problem with the plot that I have, but more because I wasn't really a huge fan of the music (it wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite, either) and I HATED the choreography, especially after it won that Tony award. It was more spastic than anything. I know it was supposed to fit with the storyline, but it should not have won a Tony, plus I thought it was downright annoying. And it DEFINITELY shouldn't have won best music/lyrics, either. I think it was justified in winning best book, but the lyrics weren't that good and neither was the music, imo.

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/07/12 09:29i have not seen it so i can't give a completely fair review. i like the music for the most part. from what i saw of the choreography at the tonys, i am not sure i agree with it winning the award, unless the guidelines for choreography don't necessarily mean dance but "synchronized" movement. They call me Jessica (like: They call me lady luck... lol)
Favorite roles:
Eva Peron, Evita; Jack's Mother, Into the Woods; Sonia, Godspell; Anything Goes, Reno Sweeney; Audrey, Little Shop of Horrors; Catherine, Pippin

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/07/12 16:22I haven't gone to see it yet, but my friend and I are convincing our parents [seems to be a bit tough, eh? haha] and we're trying to get tickets.
I'm obsessed. I'm not ashamed to say it. A while back, The B**** of Living was a free download on Itunes. And from there I bought the Cast Recording. I think it's amazing and I can connect with the teenage angst thing, which is cool. The clips/performance at the Tony's that I've seen I like as well. But you can't really review it until you've seen it I guess.
I just hope it doesn't become overrated. And it will. haha Hi! I'm Amanda Dance is my first love.. but Musical Theatre is a close second.

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/08/09 10:12I like it. It's a great show with great music, and the performances are amazing, but what I don't like about the show, is that whenever I listen to it (at least the last third of the show), I get somewhat depressed. Whenever I see a show, I want it to be entertaining and lively. There were parts where I was in tears because of the depression.
But that's just me.Currently: Nun Ensemble in "Sound Of Music"
Past: Fred in "Once Upon A Mattress" Puck in "A Midsummer Nights Dream" Little Red in "Into The Woods"
Dream Roles: Eponine in "Les Mis" Asaka in "Once On This Island" Fanny in "Funny Girl"

Re:Spring Awakening--Your personal opinion - 2007/08/09 14:39I haven't seen the show, but am DYING to. I feel in love with the music. What I hear from people who have seen it is that even though there is nudity and language and sex, it's all tastefully done and is all-in-all a beautiful musical.Name: Devyn
