I don't know why either. She may not have a good technique, and that's very possible. She might not have had phrasing taught to her when she was younger, so it would be a hard thing to learn when she's older.
It's very obvious on the cast recording. If you listen she goes "everyone deserves the chance to FLY! *GASP*" and she goes on. It sounds almost like a hiccup!
