i think most the idina menzel hype comes from her playing Elphaba in Wicked. If anybody that's been Elphaba on Broadway since Idina had been on the cast recording, they'd be obsessing over her, and not Idina. Also, RENT. People just obsess over a musical's actors, sometimes. Like in Wicked.
Also, you must admit, when you listen to a cast recording, you KNOW it's Idina singing, because her voice is so recognizable.
