RENT - 2007/06/28 16:31 Which is better? The Broadway show or the movie?

In my opinion,I think the show is better.Yea,the movie can put you more "in the scene" showing you more than the musical can...BUT,when you watch it,it just has this energy that you simply cannot get from a television screen. It's simply put...amazing and quite indescribable if you ask me. That's just my opinon
"Elphie... you mustn't blame yourself. It's dreadful, it is, to have a house fall on you, but accidents will happen..."

Re:RENT - 2007/06/28 18:44 I'm watching the movie as we type, and I have to say I love it simply because of the cast but the musical is coming to my town in November so I'll do a comparison. Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:RENT - 2007/06/28 20:21 I saw the stage show and loved it SO much more! Especially "One song Glory" At first I was incredibly bored with it, but then I started to look around and they had it staged so his shadow was huge against the wall, and it was just so...aesthetically pleasing maybe? Just plain cool, and then I liked the way Mark kinda narrates it.
However, the movie kinda threw you into the story more and since it was on a screen you could see things, like Roger's girlfriend having AIDS, rather than have to listen and stuff. I don't know what I'm talking about, but all added up, the live show is better!
The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:RENT - 2007/07/30 14:38 I love both sooooooooooooooooo (that was annoying), much.

Both are AHmazing, and have things that make them better than the other.

However, I saw the bway show first, so I'd have to say that's my favorite.

Re:RENT - 2007/08/08 13:39 The show is hands down better, no competition. The movie was great and it was a great venue for people who normally wouldn't know the show to be exposed. However, the staging alone makes the musical better. It's just well done and...I can't say enough good. Shelby

Re:RENT - 2007/08/12 00:43 They are both wonderful, but you can never match a live show on screen. You just dont get the same electricity. But you do get more of the story on screen as many have said; Im watching it right now. Either way I love it. .: Valerie :.

Dream Roles: Elle in Legally Blonde, Elphaba in Wicked, Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Lucy in YAGMCB, & Any of the lead girls in Spring Awakening.

Re:RENT - 2007/08/15 03:12 I absolutely love the movie, but I haven't seen the stage show. There are things in the movie that I think would be staged differently or my view would be obstructed because of an odd angle. With the movie you don't have to worry about that. ♫Currently: 4th of July Patriotic Show
♫Upcoming Productionsweet Charity(Ensemble), Children of Eden(Ensemble)
♫Previous Productions: Parade-Angela
South Pacific-Ensemble
♫Upcoming Auditions: All Shook(Lorraine/Ensemble) Company(any)

Re:RENT - 2007/09/01 00:36 i've never seen the show because my area has no culture (sigh) but i did just see the movie and although i had some problems with the show as a whole (and the fact that it got a PG-13 rating) i thought the music/acting/look of the film was incredible. maybe someday i'll see the show live and compare.

Re:RENT - 2007/09/01 16:11 I can't really give a good opinion because I saw a really mediocre cast in New York. Anyone remember Scary Spice from the Spice Girls? Yeah well, she was our Mimi.

Not quite what I had in mind.

Some of you might hate me for saying this, but there are a few songs in the movie edition that I like better than the originals. They're just done really nicely.

Though of course, the live show is, without a doubt, more amazing.

Re:RENT - 2007/09/01 22:48 how come whenever people say they liked the movie better, or they own the movie cd, they always say "please dont hate/ kill me"?

lol i'm just wondering... because i saw the movie just recently for the first time and i thought it was great. and i can understand how the show would be better, i just havent seen it live (and probably never will, my parents don't want me watching the movie anyway, lol, i had to sneak it )
