Re:Dream roles that you can't have.... - 2007/08/27 13:51Tracy Turnblad- will never look right Phantom of the opera- obviously. not a guy. Christine- that would kill my voice. They'd throw me out of the theater after the first night, like MJ in Spiderman 3. Gaston-That would be SO FUN! Annie- too old. A girl in my town got discovered when the community theatre was doing this. She was Annie, and rumor has it that she's slated for a big time movie with Will Ferrel! Gavroche- duh. too old, not a guy. Maybe if my school does it, and there are only a few guys that can sing, as is so often the case. I can put on a Gavroche voice, and as I'm young, it's probably the best I can hope for... Valjean- old, a guy, way out of my range. Although I do sing 'they chained me and left me for dead, just for stealing a mouthful of bread' or 'who am I? I'm Jean Valjean! Who am I? 24601!' or 'what is this fighting all about, will someone tear these two apart' or 'I will see it DONE!' or 'he is young, he's afraid...' whenever I can slip it into the conversation.
Roles I could get in these musicals
Penny or Amber- character roles, which I'm good at, and they don't sing as much, and they are girls. Meg- She has a pretty little voice, not operatic, like me! Mrs. Potts- hold on...already did it! Very comfortable range. Miss Hannigan- I covet this role. My director played her on a national tour. Eponine or Fantine- obviously Fantine when I get a little older.-Ali
Currently: -Sheila; Boys Next Door (postshow depression mode) -acceptance to acting ensemble -Bye Bye Birdie (audition- didn't get a callback)

Re:Dream roles that you can't have.... - 2007/09/09 16:05i would love to play jekyll and hyde also!! but i'm also a girl. I'd also love to play jojo in seuss...but i'm a girl. i wish roles were more... both-gender friendly!! at my school, though, we have...limited boys (all girls) so girls end up with guy's roles often anyway. i'd also love to play christine or the phantom...or don quixote or aldonza in man of la mancha.Maria

That, and the adult Nala in The Lion King, but again, wrong ethnicity.
Someday, I'd like to play the narrator in Joseph, but she's a definite high mezzo. I've dropped some of her pieces down, but I don't think the low notes would sound right in a production...
And, like many of you, I would like to play Jekyll and Hyde, but I just happen to be the wrong gender.
