Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/08/21 02:07 when I was in "Hair", every girl in the production had a crush on either the guy who played Berger or the guy who played Claude. We had this joke that they both had "groupies" and that Claude got all the hot ones, because he was cuter and Berger needed to shave.....badly. I, being a "groupie" of Berger, can now say that all us girls obsessing over these guys was the dumbest thing we could have done. Neither of them were that great of a person anyways and they ended up hurting a few of us in the end. --Ashley--
Current Production: "High School Musical" (Ms. Darbus)

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/08/21 16:07 This topic is hillarious..thanks to whoever started it.

I got dragged into a "showmance" (thanks to johnny...that made me giggle) when I was in Music Man a few summers ago. It was double casted (eugh) and I was the intruder into their tight knit theatre program. I was cast as Zaneeta, and the woman who played Eulalie was the other Zaneeta's mother
They started a rumor that I wanted to date my Tommy (who was 3 inches shorter and half my weight), which resulted in a rather frightening encounter with his 6ft tall girlfriend with the chain wallet.

A bit troubling at the time, but comepletely ridiculous in retrospect. Lots of drama at that theatre...

But I don't think I could ever seriously date someone who wanted "in" to the profession that I wanted...I'm WAY too competetive.

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/08/30 09:50 Well, there was a girl's fanclub for this guy in "A Christmas Carol" that I was in. I was one of the few girls who wasn't in it. I thought the guy was obnoxious.

I did make a few good friends in the cast though, and I'm looking forward to working with them again in the future.

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/08/30 15:54 Personally I think it all depends, I dated a girl who was also into theatre, but we didnt start dating because of a show, and we didnt meet because of theatre, we were in shows together, and both of us are perfectly ok with the other having to stage kiss, though it hasnt happened yet, weve talked about it, so I think it really depends on the persons' maturity level name:Alex
age: 16
current role: auditioning for Guys and Dolls
past roles: Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz
Dish in Goodnight Moon
Seth/Shem in Children of Eden
Emsemble in Urinetown
Troll in Little Women
Student in Les Miserables
Mysterious man in Into the Woods
Teen angel in Grease

Heehee.
During Camelot and Footloose, we had a fan club for this guy--actually, several guys. I was actually in love with him, and it took 5 months to get over him. It was pretty ridiculous, as he's 5 years older than me. We still have the club, but now it's more of a friendship thing than anything else, now.

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/08/31 23:22 well, in my Little Women there was a lot of flirting going on and i happen to know that the one girl fell hard for Laurie (a guy if you don't know the show) but apperently in the next show they were in he started dating one of the actresses and then they broke up and he starting seeing one of the other girls working backstage, so my poor friend is left heartbroken until her next show at least. Laurie is a great guy but he can shure go through girlfriends fast!

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/09/02 04:37 In one of our school musicals, pretty much EVERY girl in the ensemble was totally in love with the leading man(er. yes including me)! Looking back, I feel very silly about the whole thing! Sophs

Maybe Maybe not - 2007/09/07 15:02 You have to be careful have relationships backstage. I've always had crushes on people but never took it to the next step. Some people change completely when you break off a relationship then have to work together. It would be too awkward for me.

The man playing Sky (who was a darn good performer) was married to the musical director. Unfortunately, the MD seemed to have a problem dealing with watching her husband have a "stage romance" with me. Despite being a grown woman, she acted very juvenile and would leave the auditorium in a huff whenever we rehearsed one of the kissing scenes.

That's too bad. I'm so glad that I am secure enough in my marriage to handle kissing scenes between my husband and other women. The first show he had to kiss another woman in happened right after we got married. It was for Sugar and he had a lot of kissing in one scene. All I asked was that they didn't french kiss (which I won't even do if he's the one I have to kiss on stage), but open mouth was okay, since it needed to look realistic. I thought at first that it might bother me, but I ended up being just fine with it. Which is good since he has to kiss Lucy in our upcoming show.

Just out of curiosity what do the directors on here think of casting married/dating couples? I've been cast opposite of my husband at least three times, but I have worked with other groups that won't even consider it. My current director would have preferred to not cast us opposite each other, but with a shortage of men (and I quote) "that women will want to rip the shirt off of," she didn't have a choice!

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/09/08 19:21 Re Tripletreats comment:

I have so been there! Not when I did Sarah Brown - though my Sky was stunning, he was taken and fair play to her - but in another show a few years later. MD was seeing my leading man and she didn't really like me! It'd be talking to him about the stage business and she'd run over and practically kiss the poor guys face off! Talk about 'laying claim'. Very annoying when I was all buiness and, moreover, did not fancy the guy at all!! The whole rehearsal tension made it VERY hard to perform.

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/09/18 21:52 In A Midsummer Nights Dream, one of the fairies is going out with the fairy king. Who also picks me up in one scene and keeps touching my butt, so she's very jealous.

Ah, the drama of drama!

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/09/19 18:30 For Into the Woods Jr. this summer, most of the girls had a crush on the Baker. It was pretty funny, because I played his wife, and I was one of the only girls who wasn't going crazy over him. Jack's Mom just about screamed every time I had to kiss him. She really seemed to hate me for awhile there. This isn't a golf tournament, being loud is more than acceptable!

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2007/09/19 20:01 Backstage is how I met my fiancee! He was Harold Hill in the Music Man and I was Mrs. Paroo (this was back in high school). I had such a crush on him (as did most of the other girls in the cast). I used to sit backstage and watch him when he was on and I wasn't. Little did I know, he was doing the same with me! We became best friends then about 1 year later began dating. And now we are going to get married next fall. So I would say mine worked out!

Re:Backstage Relationships - 2008/02/09 19:20 Think of how akward it would be to break up during tech week and to have to see each other for the entire run?

Date the kid in Albegra class - less baggage!
