My First Directing Gig - 2007/06/19 19:31 So, I was one of 14 people chosen to direct a short play in an annual festival here. I basically just submitted a small essay as to why I thought I'd make a good director and what I could bring to the festival. I was really happy to be chosen because I had no prior directing experience and there were a lot of entries.

So, last weekend the festival opened and I got to see my vision on stage in front of an audience. What a cool feeling! I got rave reviews from the people I spoke to. I loved every moment. I really enjoyed the directing aspect of the theatre and definitely plan to do it again. What was weird is when the weekend was over (the festival was only a 3 day thing), I had actors giving me their cards and numbers to call them if I was ever directing anything again. I kind of laughed to myself because usually I'M the one doing that to other directors/producers.

So now I have the directing bug. I just need to figure out how I can have the opportunity to do it again.

Anyway, I just wanted to share.
I'm Samantha. But you can call me Sam.

Favorite Roles:
Rosie - Bye, Bye Birdie
Mrs. Paroo - The Music Man

Current Role: Footloose - Eleanor Dunbar (also Assistant Director)

Re:My First Directing Gig - 2007/06/20 16:33 maybe you should see if a local theatre has any directors that will take you as an assistent for a play

also congrats by the way

Re:My First Directing Gig - 2007/06/20 21:38 That's wonderful! Congratulations! I think the people who show the most passion for theatre are the people who have a love for all aspects of the shows. So now you know that you enjoy acting AND directing! Jennifer

Re:My First Directing Gig - 2007/06/20 22:00 I think directing would be so much fun! And work, but mostly fun. You're so lucky! The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?
