The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/15 22:57 This is kind of old news, but I want to know what you all think about this.

Andrew Lloyd Webber announced a couple months ago that he would be making a sequel to Phantom of the Opera: "The Phantom of Manhattan". Based on the book by Frederick Forsyth.

Seriously. I love him and everything. But. Come on. Why????????????

I haven't read the book though, so I don't know what the plot is. Has anyone read it?

I don't know about this. It just sounds kind of...cheesy? Again, I don't know. What do YOU think about this?

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/15 23:01 I think "Phantom of Manhattan" just sounds utterly ridiculous. Like ALW is trying to make a quick buck or something.

HOWEVER, with his new music being destroyed by his cat, maybe the insanity that is POM will be put off!

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/15 23:20 Haha, yeah.

I'm just a little disappointed because he has had some AMAZING shows, and even the less popular ones are great! And now...this???

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/15 23:31 It seems like selling out. However, he he were to have a new, creative idea, and not just build off something else, I'm sure it would be fabulous! Currently: Dutchess of Detroit

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/16 00:00 People have said that the book wasn't really that great. But ALW said he might change a few things.

I really think this isnt a good idea. Sequals to musicals don't usually last long. Bring Back Birdie was on stage for 4 days and it closed (LOL). There are rumors going around saying that Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman might be in it, but it's not certain......

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/16 00:06 I LOVE Michael Crawford, so I might even see it for that. IF he is in it.

But maybe I'll read the book for myself and then see what I think.

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/16 13:52 Andrew Lloyd Weber has a habit of writing at least one song in his shows that could be a big hit and get radio play, and therefor, make him lots of money.

Of course he's doing this to make a buck.

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/16 22:55 I'm sorry but this will never work. First off, Raoul is ancient in the original, Christine is dead in the end, and the Phantom should be dead by now. It is absolutly insane to try to do a sequel. Name: Stefani

What, is there something in my teeth? Is my underskirt showing? All right, lets just get this over with. No, I am not seasick. Yes, I have always been green. No, I did not eat grass as a child - Elphaba

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/16 23:01 That's absurd. It's already the longest running show on broadway right now, right? Let sleeping dogs lie-- if he really is just doing it for the money, then he should just write a whole new story. or put music to an old story. Phantom is too perfect to touch. Besides, half the characters are dead in the end. I suppose he could do a prequel or something in between...but a sequel? No, I don't think that would work. Maria

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/17 01:12 Wow, that seems freaking ridiculous(really wanted to swear there). Phantom was an amazing book, why is there a sequel? And a musical sequel at that? This will never work and I fear ALW may have lost it. The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/24 18:12 this is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard. i mean come on, i LOVE Phantom and it would just spoil it to try and do a sequel. i think whoever rights book sequals to classics should be stonned and a musical sequal would be even worse. just leave it alone already! has ALW lost his mind or is he just in it for the money now?

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/25 22:41 ok well.... here's some news on the phantom of the opera musical sequal that i've heard (from people who take alot of time looking for this stuff hehe)

everyone isnt dead or extremely old yet (meaning raoul and christine and the phantom) and christine and raoul are living in NY and they have a kid named pierre or somthin who is amazing at singing. so the phantom wants to go to NY to make an opera house just so he can see christine again................. aaw. but pretty weird and thin plot.... i really hope it wont kill the original.

ALW also claims that he just HAS to make a new musical or he'll go mad. so maybe he doesnt think it'll get far, but he just wants to work on something for a while.

Re:The Phantom of Manhattan - 2007/06/26 19:46 Why doesn't ALW come up with an original musical and not some sequel? LAME! Name: Devyn
