Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/12 19:38 If you could "steal the voice" of any singer in musical theatre, who's would it be?

I think I'd have to go with good 'ol Idina Menzel. Nobody can belt like she can! She's just so talented! I wonder how she sounds with more soprano pieces though...

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/14 21:54 There are two that come to mind immediately (both a little obscure):

1) Michael Ball. He's a British performer who originated the lead role in "Aspects of Love" and also appeared as Marius in the the concert version of "Les Miserables--the Dream Cast." Just a glorious, effortless tenor, with breathtaking high notes.

2) No idea of his name, but when I saw "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" on Broadway many years ago, the guy who sang the solo in "10 More Miles Until We Get to Heaven" (or something like that) absolutely took my breath away. He has the most beautiful Broadway tenor voice I've ever heard. Listen to the original cast album and you'll see what I mean!

If I were a woman, I'd have to say Lea Salonga. I think her voice is absolutely pure, clear and beautiful.

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/14 22:44 Sutton Foster. She is so amazing! However I would feel bad if I stole her voice and then she got stuck with mine or if she got no voice at all! The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/18 22:48 Amanda, how was "Rent"? Is Frenchie (who was kicked off of American Idol a few seasons ago) still in it?

I didn't expect to like Rent before I saw it, because I thought it would be too pop/rock for me (I tend to be very traditional when it comes to musicals). However, I was pretty blown away by the show--it's extremely powerful and moving on stage.

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/18 22:56 I saw the National Tour, so I don't believe Frenchie was in it. She's on Broadway right? However the cast I did see was spectacular! However I din't really like whoever played Roger's (sorry, can't find my mom's program and mines on the wall) voice, but I got used to it. The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/19 11:12 I agree with Henrick...hearing Lea Salonga perform as Eponine in Les Mis (I believe it was also "The Dream Cast") years ago is what made me want to do musical theatre in the first place. She just blows me away! I would love to have her voice. Jennifer

Just listening to Sutton has taught me a lot mix belt, and I pretty much just love Kristin.

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/19 12:23 I forgot to say- Lea Solonga is amazing. I saw her as Fantine this year on Broadway, and she gave me chills. Psalm 42:8

Re:Who's voice would you "steal"? - 2007/05/21 18:05 mmm, LaChanze from "The Color Purple" (duh.) Her voice makes me melt, it's just incredible. "So many years my heart has waited,
Who’d have thought that love could be so caffeinated..."
