School Talent Show - 2007/03/05 21:37 OK, so I heard our school was having a talent show and ideas worm their way into my brain until I settle on one: SINGING! And what better to sing than a musical theatre song?

You heard it here first, guys, my friend Savannah Welsh and I will be performing "What Is This Feeling" from Wicked with her as Galinda and yours truly as Elphaba.

I'm so excited! Oh, by the way, we have to audition for it so wish us luck on our auditions. If i can get a video I will. Auditions are on Wednesday and the talent show is April 13th!

I get to be "greenified" Hopefully!

Wish me luck on auditons!

Scratch that, Savannah's being replaced. My friend Samantha Kermon and I will be performing "What Is This Feeling?"

Re:School Talent Show - 2007/03/07 21:22 We had our auditions today and as well as singing the song we did some improv acting at the end!

The judge said we were" very nice and it's great to see something other than just standing and singing"

We were totally into it, getting all in each other's faces and stuff! It was fun!
Results come out Friday, I'll let you know how it goes.

Re:School Talent Show - 2007/03/10 04:37 Are you actually going to paint your skin green? I think I would just wear a green shirt...I'm so lame! The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:School Talent Show - 2007/03/15 21:37 Anybody know where I can find a costume similar to Elphaba's in that scene, and a decent black wig for myself as well as a Galinda-like blonde wig for my friend? Oh, and some green stage make-up. Melchi Gabor, he's such a radical!!!

Re:School Talent Show - 2007/03/15 23:50 Check your local yellow pages for costume shops. You'll likely find most of what you're looking for in one.

If you want a decent wig, be prepared to pay a fair bit for it. And if it comes in a box, it's a cheap halloween wig and will probably come tangled and just not fun to work with.

If you'd like to order a decent wig online, I can testify to the ones here: http://amphigory.com/wigs.html (For Galinda, I'd recommend "Sweetness" in blonde, and Elphaba, "Enchantment" in black.. Just be aware, the longer the wig, the more easily it will tangle and the harder it is to work with).
They sell makeup as well, but I can't find any green foundation.

For maintenance, I've written an article here: http://musicaltheatreproduction.com/costumes/wigstylingmaintenance.html
And if you have any questions at all, such as how to put on a wig properly so it won't fall off your head (an article I'll hopefully find time to write soon), don't hesitate to ask me!

I'll say right now, though, if you plan on having your Elphaba wig in braids, that's a little more difficult to do without having a huge, mesh-y gap in the back. If you want to do this, let me know and I can give my recommendations on how to go about it (since all of the pre-braided pigtail wigs I've seen are not very nice at all, and won't look right, I won't even suggest them).

As for the costume, if you don't sew, thrift stores are your best friend
