why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/12 06:59this isn't really new. it's from the play i did in December, but i'm new so i'm gonna tell you guys about it anyway cuz it makes me feel good.
I was in Bus Stop as Elma with the local theatre. It just got a new Artistic Director because the previous one basically made everyone feel unwelcome and made ticket sales go waaaaay down. Bus Stop was the first show directed by the new guy.
EVERYBODY loved the show! people kept coming back to see it again and again!
but here's the best part. i was working at Sears (my actual grown up, paying the bills job) and i was recognized. A customer came up to me and asked me "have you been in a play recently?" and i said "yes..." and he said "i saw you in Bus Stop. you were great. If the theatre keeps putting on shows like that, i'll come to every one"
then when i went to audition for Once Upon a Mattress, i was practicing some lines they gave us to read and one of the guys i was reading with looked at me funny and then he was like "YOU WERE IN BUS STOP! i knew i recognized you from somewhere!"
it made me smile

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/12 23:23That would be so magical for me! Being recognized especially from stage! I wish that would happen to me, and it will if I get what I want. I wish it would happen now though. *is completely envious*The opposite of Rent is Oklahoma!!! Why didn't I think of that?

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/13 01:23I got that form Peter Pan! Or rather, my grandmother does. After the first performance (which was the worst one, by the way), a random lady came up to me and said, "If you don't pursue this, it'll be a waste of talent" and I've never gotten that before. And then for weeks, people at church came up to me and said, "Omg, you were the most incredible Peter Pan I've ever seen!" I know what warm fuzzies you get. Aren't they nice?Hey yo! Let's go to the mo-fro (Melody Freeze), To get a fro yo (frozen yogurt), then we'll stop by the scho-sho (Scholorshop), on our way to WYSO (World Youth Symphony Orchestra)!
Just a little saying from Interlochen, possibly one of the greatest places on the globe!

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/13 02:35I was in our High School production of Seussical two years ago, and I had so much fun after the run! Every night there were a TON of kids waiting to shake our hands and give us hugs, and I even signed some autographs! And then one day I was walking to class and this mom and her little kid were in the school (I don't know why!) when they stopped me. The mom was like, "Do you recognize her?" and the little boy grinned and said "She was the Cat in the Hat Play!!!" haha. It was great! but, I haven't ever been recognized by a stranger out in public...that's awesome!*Stephanie*
Favorite roles: Petey Fisk in Greater Tuna The Cat in The Hat in Seussical Dainty June in Gypsy
Next Audition...High School Musical

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/13 16:43I had two incidents where that happened; it was awesome! I was in Kindertransport as the lead in 9th grade, and 3 months later I was seeing ragtime at another theater and a girl and her mom came up to me and asked me if I was the same girl from that show. I was like yeah
Then in september I was in Urinetown as Little Sally. My mom went to sign me up a month ago for voice lessons and the secretary saw my name and was like "Oh she was little sally! She was really good!" Then last week my dad (who is a piano technician) was talking to one of his customers and he mentioned that his daughter was in Urinetown and the lady had seen it and she asked who I played, and when she found out, she was like, "Oh she was so funny! She did such a great job!"
hehe...not quite famous, but my name's slowly getting around. Current Show: Coppelia (Swanhilda's friend) Shows in the Last Year: The Nutcracker(Spanish Chocolate, The Prissy Doll) Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette), Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbit), Urinetown (Little Sally), Schoolhouse Rock Live (Dori),

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/13 16:49I love those! I was Lucy in You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, and it's happened to me numerous times when I go see a performance of another person who was in the cast that people ask me if I was Lucy in the show. Probably because I'm just as obnoxious in real life, but it still makes me feel good. I think it is just wonderful that you want to be a nun, and you think it might be fun!

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/15 00:27I've gotten that for Tuptim. I worked the theatre's New Years Eve party as a server and had lots of people tell me I was great as I put gravy on their plates
I don't really think that counts, though, since I was in the same building. But it was still nice.
I did get recognize about a year later going to another show in Edmonton (King and I was in a suburb) by one of the techies as I was leaving and he was standing by the exit. It threw me at first since it had been a while, and he just looked at me and went "hi!" and I said " hi." And then he explained himself and it was all good.Kathleen Sera Current Shows: Aloha Pinafore - Volga Upcoming Auditions: Crazy For You - Irene Roth

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/15 01:06i've gotten recognized a few times...since the theatre pool in my city is soo small its inevitable that youd get recognized eventually, but nothing was as gratifying as the first time i got fan mail!
while doin my second run of Annie, where i played Annie, we did a lot of school shows and i guess one of the teachers gave the class a writing assignment to write a letter to one of the characters in the show...well half the students wrote to me and they were the cutest letters ever, to this day (almost 10 years later) ive still got all the letters
and then again after i played Josephine in HMS Pinafore the theatre company got a package dropped off for me from the mother of two little girls, one who was in the show and one who wasnt. in the package was a tape of the show and letters from the girls, one saying she had such a fun time working with me and wanted to do more shows together b/c i was super fun and nice and the other saying she liked how i sang b/c i was pretty...it was so cute, it made me laugh so hard
theres really nothing better in the world than the admiration of children, it almost makes me want to be miss canada or something...and when you get fanmail saying "you sing real nice and are very pretty" (even if its from a fouryearold) nothing in the world makes you feel betterNikki!! currently rehearsing: Lady Viola/Cesario (Twelfth Night), Joan of Arc (a raisin in the sun)

Re:why i think i'd like being famous - 2007/02/15 01:48I'll second that. I had a kid and her mother come up to me after a show and the little girl gave me a big hug, but didn't say much (probably shy). The mother asked why I screamed from off stage near the end and I wasn't too sure what to say since Tuptim dies in every other version of the story and it was kind of obvious that this was the same, but less graphic. But yes, made my day . I love kids.Kathleen Sera Current Shows: Aloha Pinafore - Volga Upcoming Auditions: Crazy For You - Irene Roth

Once, after a show, I went to a karaoke bar with the the cast and I was the first one there (with a friend from the show.) These two old ladies and an old man came up to us and told they had JUST seen the show and how great we were! It was so nice! Especially because we both had very minor roles, but they still noticed us! So I know the feeling It's great to get recognition.•••♥♫♥••• faith
