Choreographer for a show I'm auditiong for. - 2008/04/26 00:00 So, one of my usual summer theatre companies is doing a Broadway revue called "On Broadway" this summer. I plan on auditioning, but they've asked me to be the choreographer as well. (I'm not quite sure why our usual choreographer isn't doing this show, but oh well.) Anyway, the lineup of shows is:

Wicked
Les Miserables
Annie
The Music Man
Hairspray
Cats
Phantom of the Opera
The Lion King
Grease
The Little Mermaid

Has anyone had an experience like this? I'm auditioning for a show, but I'm also on production staff. This company is usually pretty good at giving everyone a fair chance (We were all shocked when Gertrude was given to someone new last year, and it turned out great!) However, considering the amount of roles involved, chances are I will get something. Are their ways to make it clear that I had not part in casting myself, or have I just set myself up for hoards of rumors?

Also, does anyone have any tips on preparing big group numbers with just myself and maybe one or two other people? I like to see how things look when there's more than one thing going on at one time, but I don't really have the resources to do that. Being a choreographer is all new to me.
This isn't a golf tournament, being loud is more than acceptable!

Re:Choreographer for a show I'm auditiong for. - 2008/04/26 00:27 As long as when its time to cast you and you make sure you have no imput it's fine. My friend Emily was our choreographer for BatB and she ended up getting Babett! For Hairspray, draw back on your classic 60's moves like the pony, the twist, mashed potatoe and so on. For Les Miz, you can probably get away with just musical staging. I Rent a Wicked apartment on Avenue Q! (Unfortunatly, it's haunted by a Phantom)

Re:Choreographer for a show I'm auditiong for. - 2008/04/27 22:54 I've been choreographer and performer. Not easy. Especially on the voice. Watch out. You may want to get some kind of mic thing to help you out. Counting out all those counts while teaching the steps and yelling over the music can take its toll. Break-a-Leg!
