Re:monolouges, songs, anything for grease!! help! - 2008/04/26 02:27In my opinion, really any 50s pop songs could work. Grease does have a somewhat unique sound and I think it'd almost be better not to sing a Broadway song. Unless, that is, the theatre has specifically asked for showtunes. I hope that was helpful-Georgia
Current Show: West Side Story - Clarice Recent Shows: Carousel - Principal Dancer, Ensemble, A Christmas Carol - Lily, Charwoman, Charitable Gentleman, Principal Dancer, Ensemble; Rootabaga Stories-multiple roles; Joseph... Dreamcoat -Wives Chorus

Re:monolouges, songs, anything for grease!! help! - 2008/04/26 13:51Check out the movie soundtracks American Graffiti and Sister Act. They are full of great doo-wop songs. "Gravy" in Sister Act is one of my favorites! Other famous examples to get you started:
Who Put the Bomp? Goodnight, Sweetheart Teenager in Love
But I would totally do "Gravy".
Since they want you to have two songs anyway, you can have yourself covered by having one doo-wop and one broadway.

Re:monolouges, songs, anything for grease!! help! - 2008/04/29 21:52If your auditioning for Sandy, i would suggest Since I Don't Have You, it is some of the versions of it as a musical, but was originally a 50s song. Since it is usually not used, most people use Hopelessly Devoted instead, it could work. You could also use It's My Party, which is a 50s song (at least its in the right style, if it isn't really from that era, though im pretty sure it is).dream roles: Belle-Beauty and the Beast, Christine-Phantom of the Opera, Elaine-Wonderful Town, Mazie-Seussical, Galinda the Good Witch-Wicked,...

Re:monolouges, songs, anything for grease!! help! - 2008/05/01 19:31Look up Lesley Gore and Connie Francis. The were popular in the early sixties but the music is the same as the late fifties and the play takes place in 1959. I used Lesley Gore's hit "You Don't Own Me" when I auditioned for Rizzo but got Frenchy.--Ashley-- Current Production: "High School Musical" (Ms. Darbus) Upcoming Auditions: "The Children's Hour"(Auditioning for Mary or Martha), "On The Razzle", "The Wizard Of Oz", "Blood Brothers", "Hamlet"(Auditioning for Ophelia!!!!!) Dream Roles: Rizzo "Grease", Fantine "Les Miserables", Ms. Lovett "Sweeney Todd", Gwendolen "The Importance of Being Ernest" , Ophelia "Hamlet", Cherie "Bus Stop", Mama Rose "Gypsy",
