EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary!!! - 2008/04/25 19:10 This is my first out of school audition, theres 4 spots left in a professional production of WRF, Will Jr., Freddy, James, and Mary. Being a girl, the only one I can really do is Mary.

I kind of have no idea about the show, or what to sing. It said "Those auditioning must have previous stage experience with strong personalities and voices. Please have a song prepared and the sheet music. Accompanist will be provided. You must be able to sing with the piano."

I've done school shows, but I have awesome stage presence, and I have a strong voice/personality. Why not give it a shot?

So, what should I sing? HELP!!

Re:EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary!!! - 2008/04/26 04:09 I would suggest you sing another Cy Coleman "showy" type number but not one that is horrendously overdone (so not Big Spender). Nothing too modern, nothing that sounded pop or rock but not too classical MT either, you want to show a broadway belt quality.

Re:EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary!!! - 2008/04/26 13:14 I'm not very familiar with that show, either, but according to the database on this site, Mary is supposed to be around ten years old. She is one of Will's four children. She doesn't appear to have any solos, but may sing in the ensemble and do some acting. (If I'm wrong, maybe someone who knows better can correct me?)

If that's the case, you'll want to pick something that's age-appropriate for her. "If My Friends Could See Me Now" is a great song, but it might be a bit crass for a ten-year-old. Actually, I can't think of any Coleman songs that are for children. In the "Tips" section of this site, there are some tips for choosing kids' audition songs. Maybe that can give you some ideas.

Although it is technically a "contemporary" musical, it is set on the 1920s/30s vaudeville, and Will Rogers was a country-western entertainer. I listened to some clips from the soundtrack on amazon.com, and those two styles are present in many of the songs, albeit with some modern twists.

Re:EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary - 2008/04/27 22:44 "If My Friends Could See Me Know" is a good choice.

Re:EMERGENCY Will Rogers Follies audition for Mary - 2008/04/28 15:39 Ugh, I can't even audition for it now.
Thanks, Mom. You fill my life with joy.
