Children of Eden - 2008/04/12 15:56 I have heard nothing but good things about Children of Eden. The community theatre is doing it this summer. I'm excited but I have never seen it nor do I knopw much about it. I will be seeing it next month though because I have a friend who is in it.

Now to the reson why I'm writting this. I plan on auditioning however don't know who to aim for or what type of music to sing for the audition. I am a 5'8" Blonde 17 year old. Hair color can be changed... haha. And I sing alto and soprano. I can belt but not as well as some... Is there any character that might work apperance wise? And what songs would be good for the audition?

Re:Children of Eden - 2008/04/12 18:34 First off, Children of Eden is a play about the old testament. The first act is the story of the creation, the second act is the story of Noah's Ark. The show is traditionally double casted, with certain lead actors from the first act playing certain parts in the second. Depending on the size of your company, this may or may not be done.

If you are looking for a feature role, I would look into Eve or Yonah. Depending on the age range of auditioners, you could play either. I am currently Yonah in my theatre's production of COE (I'm 13), but I've also seen her played by older teenagers.

Both Eve and Yonah require good vocal stamina, they both have multiple solos. Yonah is more of a "All sing no talk" role, but she is a sizeable one, nonetheless.

The music is written by Stephen Schwartz, and many of the songs have a rock feel to them. Definitely do not sing anything to classical. No italian arias! (XD)

May I also add that COE also has a fantastic chorus of storytellers, which are more or less like a greek chorus. There are multiple solos amongst them as well, so even if you arent eve or yonah, you will be doing a LOT.

Best of luck with your audition!
I'm Micaela. But you can call me Mickey!

Currently: Taking a much needed BREAK!

Dream Roles- Lucy in YGMCB, Penny in Hairspray (She's hysterical!), Anything in Oklahoma.

Re:Children of Eden - 2008/04/13 14:42 If you don't get Eve or Yonah, I hope you get the Snake. It soounds like a fun part.

Otherwise, everything I think has been said.

Re:Children of Eden - 2008/04/15 22:25 Break A Leg!!! Love this show. I'd aim more for Yonah if I were you because of your age. Usually at community theatre there are older folks who audition. Eve has to age from a young girl to an old woman in the show. But it all depends on the average age of the folks who show up to this community theatre.
