Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/23 00:14 I am looking for two songs. A female duet between a low mezzo and a high mezzo, ages about 15-25, preferably a more singing orientated song, because my friend has no acting experiance.

The other is a female ensemble piece of about 5 people, could be more, but hopefully no less. the voice ranges are at least 2 low mezzo, 2 high mezzo, 1-2 sopranos. could find more of any of them. NOT a dance song though. I don't coreograph dance. age range of about 15-25.

Both of these would be for a music festival in mid-april.

Thanks!
Lissa

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/23 13:45 As far as the duets I can only think of a few that might work:

"In His Eyes" from Jekyll & Hyde
"A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" from West Side Story (I can't remember how high it goes.)
"Beautiful Pair" from Shenandoah
~Annie
Recently: Pick-A-Little-Lady (The Music Man), Miss Thorn (Ruthless! the Musical), Emma Carew (Jekyll & Hyde)

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/24 08:54 The only song I can think of is "What is this feeling?" and it is probobly overdone and the ensemble dances

EDIT: sorry, read the post wrong. I'm a ditz like that sometimes.

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/24 09:21 What about "Marry The Man Today" from Guys & Dolls? It's such a fun song to perform, and lots of opportunity for creative blocking. _____________

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/24 15:09 I was about to say "Marry the Man Today" but I misread the post I thought you needed a duet w/ ensemble. I need to read not skim Disregard my other post then.

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/27 20:33 oh oh oh...you need to turn to the queens of mezzo duets: Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley. They have released many CD's that are entirely female duets. Some of my favorites:

* I know Him So Well (form Chess)
*My Friend (from The LIfe) - This one is absolutely beautiful
*Every Day a Little Death (from A Little Night Music)

ALSO, this one has a little bit of humor to it, so there might be a need for some acting...it is a fairly easy song to sing with a nice harmony in the chorus, but "The Grass is Always Greener" from And The World Goes 'Round (not sure what show it was originally in...)

...Speaking of Kander and Ebb...they have a few numbers that would be good for a group number:

*There Goes the Ball Game" (a trio that could be expanded to have two women per vocal part) - also in "And the World Goes 'Round"
* Cell Block Tango - Chicago

A couple other ideas: "Matchmaker" from Fiddler, "At the Ballet" from A Chorus Line (also putting multiple people on one part), or turning "Look at me I'm Sandra Dee" into a group number...

Hope that helps!

Amanda

Re:Female duet and ensemble - 2008/01/31 19:18 Ooh! I agree with Mangos.

Some things are meant to be
- Little Women very sad and pretty.

Could you? from Little Women is a very funny song too. It needs more acting though.
Current Show: Spitfire Grill
Last Show: Laramie Project
Next Show: Peter Pan

You sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.
