Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/13 18:56 So, I have this feeling that I'm not familiar with very many shows. Because whenever people say they're auditioning for such and such, three quarters of the time I dont know what show that is. So whats a way to broaden my show repitoir without having to buy the music to everything? Thanks!

Re:Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/14 08:14 If you really don't want to buy alot of music, it gets expensive, you should check out your library. I usually check out my library and they have a surprising amount of musicals on CD.

Re:Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/14 12:01 Thank you! I'll have to look at the library. And I also thought, I can look up shows on you tube there'd probably be some good stuff.

Re:Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/17 20:11 I felt the same way you do not too long ago. I went to the library myself and checked out every musical DVD they had. Lucky for me they actually had a musical section. Hopefully you're library will have a good theatre section as far as books go...mine really doesn't.

And while we're on this topic...
I'd really like a book about the history of American theatre. I'd want one that's not just a summary of shows, but info on the popular actors, composers and directors in different time periods. Anyone ever seen anything like that?

Re:Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/17 20:56 I felt like this when I went to a MT camp- I thought I knew a lot of shows, but everyone else know SO many, it was insane!

And Kristine, I got an awesome book for Christmas: link

Since it's the fifth edition, there are probably ones that outline the earlier years. And since it's really old, there are probably more recent editions.

Re:Show Repitoir??? - 2008/01/18 00:45 Another good book is "Our Musicals, Ourselves: A Social History of The American Musical Theatre" by John Bush Jones. It was my textbook for my History of American Musical Theatre class and I loved it so much I kept it. Although, it's part musical history and part American history. It basically parallells what's going on in America at the time to how that translates onto the stage. It has tons and tons of shows in there that are fun to learn about! ~*~ Kris ~*~

Currently In: Rehearsals for Nine The Musical
