Okay,so right now i got to an Arts School,i'm in the Repretory theatre company and we are putting on FAME in about 2 weeks.
I have so many issues to vent I SWEAR!
Casting -Director cast ethnic roles correctly except for like 2....it's really bothersome -I got cast as an Adult,1)I'm one of the youngest in the class,being a sophmore,I look like a teen,I sing like a teen,I act like a teen compared to the older kids who ARE playing teens. 2)She cast me as a dancer,dancing is definately not a strong point of mine.
-We go over the same scenes over and over while some haven't been touched at all!
She tells us we are 'all leads' when I feel it is quite the opposite,she ignores parts.
I'm the only person who plays two roles and I'm the only understudy...
growl?
or should i feel special?

Re:Oh Lord,I want to DIE!(FAME rant) - 2008/01/12 22:49In all honesty sweteheart right now it seems like what you need to do is go with the flow. I've been in a pretty recent frustating experience with a director who procrastinated with EVERYTHING.
But, if theirs things untouched maybe attempt to have a heart to heart with the director?
& Obviously if you were cast as an adulte and asked to understudy a part completly out of your range ethnically its probably because she feels you can do it.

The director was ridiculous! Their were so many things that were left un-blocked and things getting re-blocked, and just should would give us block that would completely contradict her other blocking and it was just ridiculous.

Besides the extreme Diva-itis going around i believe the company has ALOT of talent...I just wish some people woul suck it up..

Yeah,I have a run through as carmen on thursday,Im dying my hair like Saturday.
I feel special though The director said all kinds of great things about me She said I had the experience and the dependidbility,and the real carmen does not.

Re:Oh Lord,I want to DIE!(FAME rant) - 2008/01/15 08:39It is frustrating when the dierctor doesn't take the show as seriously as you do, which it sounds like is the case. Sometimes, directors are just phoning it in and make decisions that you may not agree with. It sounds like you want to do a good job and that you are not allowed to because the director's level of involvement doesn't match yours.
Do the best job you can and learn from the experience. Maybe the next show, you will get the dream role with the dream director in the dream show. When it comes, you will be ready for it.

Re:Oh Lord,I want to DIE!(FAME rant) - 2008/01/15 11:11I can totally relate to that (the director not knowing the show as well as you do). I've had that happen SO many times. Where the director starts talking about one character (and it's obvious they mean a different character) or casts people as different characters in the same scene with no possible time to change costumes.
In fact I am doing Nancy in Oliver and I was cast to be the Strawberries Ripe Girl in Who Will Buy - which would be great except that as soon as the song ends Nancy is involved in the kidnapping Oliver scene so there is NO WAY to change characters/costumes in the middle of a scene. And the girl playing Bet was cast as the Milk Maid in the same song so she can't do it either.
It seems that the director should have thought this out & not have the cast pointing out the impossibilities.
Actually I love this director & it's not a problem in this show (it's fixable) but there have been other shows where the director (not this director)had no clue (and didn't care) & it frustrated me to death.

I had to play carmen today in class today because she working at the auto show....Everyone was so surprised i knew her lines
