An audio of me singing "Home" - 2007/12/21 10:22 Hey guys. Recently, I had a little voice recital and one of my pieces was "Home" from Beauty and the Beast. I didn't know that my teacher recorded it, but I came into lessons the other day and she played this for me. I think it is a pretty good recording. The balance is a little off and there are a few minor pitch problems, but I am pretty happy with it. I only went through the song with my teacher twice before I performed it. Let me know what you guys think. Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.

Re:An audio of me singing "Home" - 2008/01/24 16:42 AW RACHEL!
This is not bad at all!
Like you said about the balance and the few minor pitch problems was all their was about this piece that could possibly be negative.
I could really feel the emotion and that's what artistic, real singing is about.

Even with pitch problems I could tell their was no lack of confidence in your voice. I love the fact that you used vibrato, because usually with belty songs like that and ingenue roles like Belle theirs little to none used because of the sake of sounding pop-y. *rolls eyes*

However on the last "Free..." you have quite enough time to take a nice supported breath, and in my own opinion of course, I feel it sounds best starting a semi strong un-vibrant onsent, then easing into your vibrato with slow descrescendo off of the note.

Another way would be to take that strong supported breath before the end of the last note just use a nice gentle controlled vibrato, doing the descrescendo off of the note. If your going to use your vibrato.

When I hear endings like the ending of "Home" I think of bird floating away maybe even a butterfly and thats the sort of sound (in my opinion) should be achieved by that ending.

I think that's all! Haha

Great Job Honey!

Re:An audio of me singing "Home" - 2008/01/24 21:02 I'm sorry, but I really had trouble hearing you. I don't think it would be fair of me to give any kind of critique. I think it was just a combo of the piano being louder and the poor quality of my speakers.

Re:An audio of me singing "Home" - 2008/01/25 11:07 Krisinte- I admit the audio is pretty crappy. It was taken from the side of the theatre rather than the center of the balcony so all the sound is off. But it was the only recording I had, so I figured I would put it up anyway. Thanks for trying to listen even if it didn't work out!

Bruce- Thanks for the critique. There are some pitch problems which I want to work out some more. I think part of the pitch problem comes from the way I speak, or so my teacher says.

I consciously choose to end the song the way I did, but I also think it sounds different from how it really was due to the balance problem. I don't know, I liked it that way with the soft ending, but maybe it did it wrong. I thought it sounded and felt appropriate, sort of like the butterfly floating you mentioned. But I will I have to work on it some more. Thank you again!

I will try to get some better audios soon.

Re:An audio of me singing "Home" - 2008/01/25 15:13 Alot of it was probably the recording the dynamics I mean.
