Off-Broadway Soundtracks - 2006/12/28 17:04
This Christmas I discovered two really great Off-Broadway shows. Their soundtracks are so good. So I wanted to reccommend them to everyone!
(1) I Love You Because - this is a new musical love story, and it was written by two NYU grad students, and began as their thesis. It is a modern day telling of Pride and Prejudice. It is amazing and funny, along the same lines as Avenue Q, since it has adult humor. (It isn't nearly as crude, though) The music and cast are great. This is a small off-broadway show, but it is SO good. I'd definitely recommend it
(2) Grey Gardens - Another new musical, this one is about the Beales, relatives of Jackie Kennedy. The musical is about Big Edie and Little Edie, a mother and daughter, and their fall from socialites to reclusive old cat ladies. It is set in Grey Gardens, their East Hampton mansion. The first act is set in 1941 (a flashback) and Act 2 is set in 1973. It is also Off-Broadway, but the music is fabulous, and funny. I'd recommend this one as well!
