CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2007/11/13 16:16 I'm still training my voice and i really need to practice every day because it makes a huge difference when i meet with my voice teacher (usually once a week, sometimes twice leading up to an audition). I can read music, but don't play piano (although i do have access to a piano and can play the pitches i need if i need to check a note). I have seen at least one CD for vocal warm up exercises, has anyone ever used such a CD program? what did you think of it? Chris

Re:CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2007/11/14 10:56 I use a CD for vocal warm ups when I practice on my own. However, that CD was made by my vocal coach. Maybe you can have yours do that same. The problem I found with the CD programs that you buy was that not all of them are for specified voice types. So if you look into buying one, make sure it is for you voice type and is what will work best for you. I really enjoy the CD of warm ups my teacher made, and I think that is one of the best ways to go. Let me know if you find anything useful. I am always looking for better practice tips.

Re:CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2007/11/15 14:15 I have a vocal warm-up/work out CD. The warm-up is for all voices and there are different workouts for high and low voices. I really like it. Unfortunately it is a copy from my former vocal coach (who moved out of state so I can't contact him) and I have no idea where to purchase it. ~Annie

Re:CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2007/11/19 12:26 I was at the library the other day and ound this book called "Set Your Voice Free" by some really famous voice coach whose name I can't remember. It comes with a CD for warm ups that's really helpful. -Georgia

Re:CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2007/11/19 15:44 The music department here recently got a CD recorder. My choir teacher uses it to record CDs for us and her voice students, especially so that we can practice over break. She just pops a CD is, presses a few buttons, plays the piano, presses a button, repeats the process for as many tracks as needed, tells it to close the CD, and puts it in an envelope.

If your teacher cannot record CDs, then you can buy a small tape recorder. They're pretty cheap (every Theatre student has to get one by the end of their freshman year), and very good. I still use mine, and it hasn't even gone through one set of batteries (I've had it since May 2006). All you have to do is press the record button and have someone play your song.

*Edit* Sorry, I forgot to say that all Theatre students here have to get a tape recorder by the end of their freshman year.

Re:CDs for vocal practice/warm ups? - 2008/01/06 16:04 Your post is pretty old, so this may not be applicable anymore, but I use Winning Warm-ups by Kathleen Vandergraf:

You buy them in the range that you sing in. I do them in the car.
