Scripts - 2007/11/03 17:50 Hey!

I've been looking for musical scripts at different libraries, but there are NONE that have any. I'd really like to read some, especially for Bye Bye Birdie, because I'm auditionning in a month and I'd like to know a bit more about it. I don't really want to buy it online, so is there any other place that I could get some?

Thanks!

Re:Scripts - 2007/11/03 17:57 i don't know if you've already done this, but try going to your library's website and searching there. i know i can borrow books from any library in the county through that, so there is a way bigger selection, especially if your local library is rather small.

Re:Scripts - 2007/11/03 22:57 That's exacly what I tried, but they still have nothing. They rarely have what I'm looking for. They don't even have most musicals, so I can't even watch Bye Bye Birdie before I audition.

I'm so lost.

Re:Scripts - 2007/11/09 15:09 There is a movie version available.

It's not exactly the same (the play is much better) but you can get a lot of general information & be familiar with most of the scenes & the songs & characters that way. You may be able to rent it or find it at Half Price Books or you can probably get it on ebay for a few bucks. It's an older movie so not in high demand.

I don't like the way they do "Put on a Happy Face" at all in the movie (the play version is much better) but most of the songs are similar. Paul Lynde as Mr. McAfee is awesome. Dick Van Dyke is good as Albert. Ann Margret was Kim.

The script is probably hard to find but the movie should be easy. There are a few monologues on this web site from it (Mae Peterson & Ursula at least).

Hope that helps!

Re:Scripts - 2007/11/09 15:19 Here are the lyrics http://www.lyricsdownload.com/bye-bye-birdie-lyrics.html The first link had the synopsis but you have to go down a ways to find it.

Basically you have Albert Peterson (leading man), Rosie (his faithful secretary/girlfriend waiting years for them to marry), Mae Peterson (his mom - he's basically a mamma's boy until near the end), Conrad Birdie (think Elvis), Kim McAfee (mischievious ingenue type & the girl Conrad is supposed to kiss). Hugo Peabody (her jealous boyfriend), Mr. McAfee (whiney and funny), Mrs. McAfee (all American mom), Ursula (Kim's best friend & a total Conrad groupie)...those are the biggest parts. There are a lot of smaller teenage girl parts.

Hope this helps.
