I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/07 22:19 So I just got back about 2 hours ago from one of the most stressful callbacks of my life. It's a college production of Little Shop of Horrors, and everyone who auditioned was so good!!! I made it to the last round auditioning as Audrey, but they called me to cast me as an urchin which is fabulous because it's what I originally wanted.
Then I noticed that my director was online on facebook and she wrote to me:
" I would have loved to have you as Audrey but i needed a larger contrast between Audrey and Seymour. You have the total package.. Crap!!"

So that made me feel really good on top of it all. Plus two of my good friends who are the fiercest singers are urchins with me!
Although the one thing I'm unsure about is that she cast 5 urchins since there were so many amazing girls. I don't know how that's exactly gonna blend but we'll see.

Has anyone ever done it with more than 3 urchins?
Current Show: Coppelia (Swanhilda's friend)
Shows in the Last Year:
The Nutcracker(Spanish Chocolate, The Prissy Doll)
Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette), Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbit), Urinetown (Little Sally),
Schoolhouse Rock Live (Dori),

Re:I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/08 00:21 Congratulations!!! I love the urchins! I'm sure it'll be great! I've heard that it works fine with more than 3 urchins although I've never seen it done that way myself. 5 does seem kinda wierd considering the way the parts are split but I'm sure it will turn out great in the end! -Georgia

Current Show: West Side Story - Clarice
Recent Shows: Carousel - Principal Dancer, Ensemble, A Christmas Carol - Lily, Charwoman, Charitable Gentleman, Principal Dancer, Ensemble; Rootabaga Stories-multiple roles; Joseph... Dreamcoat -Wives Chorus

Re:I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/08 10:08 Way to go!

I've only seen the once and they used 3 urchins. However, when I did Seussical they had four bird girls and they had two on the middle part. I'm guessing that they probably had one really strong singer for a certain vocal part and needed two in the other two parts to balance it out. Or maybe you were all so good they couldn't turn any of you away

Re:I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/09 17:33 First rehearsal today...it was pretty fierce! I figured out why it was 5. the director said she really liked all of us and so she decided to put 2 on the lowest harmony, 2 in the middle , and 1 on the highest (presumably because 2 on the highest would be too overpowering). It sounds awesome!! The harmonies are so tight, and we've already sung through the whole show and learned all the parts. It's mostly 2 and 3 part harmonies, but we got through it all in the space of about 2 1/2 hours. Current Show: Coppelia (Swanhilda's friend)
Shows in the Last Year:
The Nutcracker(Spanish Chocolate, The Prissy Doll)
Little Shop of Horrors (Ronnette), Ragtime (Evelyn Nesbit), Urinetown (Little Sally),
Schoolhouse Rock Live (Dori),

Re:I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/09 19:28 Hey I was wondering what song/songs you choose for your audition?
I'm auditioning in about a month and I was just looking for a song. It would be much appreciated!!

Re:I got cast as an urchin in Little Shop! - 2007/09/20 20:34 I've done it with 5 urchins before (provided I was 9 and it wasnt because of harmonies because we were singing in unison) but its a great show and a lot of fun (I've done it a couple times since then). Have fun!
